As part of recording the history of the Syncro in Australia, I have
created a new Database entry, Syncro Register, Australia & NZ.
I have used the data from the Phone Book that Stephen Criddle created
years ago and entered the details in the new Register.
If you have already listed your Syncro details, please check the new
Register to ensure that the details are correct. All members can edit
their own entries.
If you haven't listed your Syncro yet, please do so. If you are an
original owner (and we have a few), please use the last column and
enter "Original Owner".
To make this database much more user friendly, may I suggest adopting
typical "phone book" entry sequence of Surname first, Given name second.
By contrast, using our Phone Book database, I've always found it
inefficient/annoying scrolling through 2 pages of listings just to
locate a particular listing due to the absence of Surname priority
sorting.
For example, I've changed my entry, works a treat.
If you agree, give me the go ahead and I'll do the rest, save you the
time ok.

Ok will do soon no problem and I'll monitor future entries for
conformity. I'm sure everyone will get the hang of it in due course.
While on the topic, if our Phone Book database was also made editable, I
could go through that as well and at the same time, delete the repeat
entries .... it's overdue for a cleanup if you agree.

I have changed the properties of the Simple Phone
Book to allow for membership editing, but the Register contains the same
infromation. Do we need to keep up the Phone Book?
Ok will do soon no problem and I'll
monitor future entries for conformity. I'm sure everyone will get the hang

Les, sorry ... I hadn't looked recently .... assumed it still is as it
was.
Of course you are right. Essentially this new register should make the
other reduntant.
Making this register editable and deletable, I'm happy to see members
being able to help manage and update this database to ... more shoulders
to the wheel so to speak.
However, in case of gremlins in the system or you inadvertently let in a
hijacker, may I suggest you keep a backup copy of this database
elsewhere, starting about now!
Perhaps leave the old Phone Book for now as is in place and delete it
later when this new one is sorted ok.

I have been mindful of the fact that, if the
website was corrupted or if it crashed, we would lose all our contacts back to
when I started this in August 04. (I actually ran a newsletter for
Australian Syncro owners for about six months before
that.)
As a result, I have recently gone through the
entire member list and (laboriously!) transferred every mortal member to a
searchable table. On my several computers, I keep all documents and
records on a dedicated external hard drive to insulate them from any
crash. In the near future, I will be changing this to an external RAID 1
drive, which offers better protection via redundant back-up.
I can take a saveable copy of the Register and
I will keep that on the external drive as well.
Another reason that I started the full membership
list was to include details about members' Syncros, plus their knowledge, skills
and more. We have some very interesting members with expertise in all
sorts of things, I find. The trick to keeping it relevant is to comb
through the gigabytes of data to include old information, then keep it all
up to date as new information comes in.
So, the answer to your suggestion is that it is
well worth while and I am keeping off-line records of our membership and their
Syncros.
Les, sorry ... I hadn't
looked recently .... assumed it still is as it was.

Perhaps

this new one is sorted ok.
Ok I think I've streamlined this new register such that it is now more
efficient, user friendly and descriptive terms used have in the main
been standardised for uniformity.
For reasons of compactness and to cut superfluous repetition, under the
heading named "Syncro Details", the word "syncro" has been deleted from
all descriptions.
Anyone have any suggestions or preferences that may further enhance this
register, please advise.
Could everyone please review your own listing, perhaps there are
alterations or updates that would be beneficial.
Anyone who has not yet listed or your listing is somehow now missing,
please feel free to add your own new listing now.
