SYNCRO TOUR 2007- GET TOGETHER- JAN 2007

Syncro 2007 Get together,
WHEN-the second week of Jan 2007 from Sat 6th to SUN 14, this gives
you all time to book holidays from your work and get the vans ready
for action.

REASON- I am envious of all the web sites with great group outings
through America and Europe, South Africa. I am sure in Australia we
could really put a get together and show off to the Syncro world
what Australia Syncronaughts can do. We will get photos and get them
on the web.

LOCATION-To start at Batemans Bay NSW which about 500ks south of
SYDNEY on the coast road to MELBOURNE directly East of CANBERRA (you
know the capital of AUS), as there are some great National park
tracks and beaches in that area, I have just spent 10 days around
there. From then the direction will be determined when the level of
interest is ascertained and from suggestions/discussions from other
Syncronaughts. So who ever in this club knows of some particular
places that we should visit let me know and I will start mapping out
the route.
Lets get as many SYNCROS together as possible

RSVP direct to ricktout@yahoo.com.au
Please email me direct saves cluttering up this site and I will
report back to this site as things progress under the
heading "SYNCRO TOUR 2007".
Before you know it 2007 will be here, so let me know ASAP.
Regards
Rick.
ricktout@yahoo.com.au
Rick,

To kick the whole adventure off, we would need an assembly point somewhere near or in Bateman's, preferably including an overnight, so that people coming from various directions have a finite place to meet  - a caravan park might be suitable so that those travelling from afar can have at least one night with hot showers, etc.  There is also good reason (mutual support) for people travelling from various directions to link up on the way and travel in convoy.

There are then two possibilities from there on.  Day trips from a fixed base, or progressive stop-overs.

Peter, you have local knowledge, so please put forward your suggestions.

Rick, we have plenty of space available on the website, so let's put the postings direct to the group.  The more that appears on the group site, the more likelihood that we will encourage others to join us.

Les

Les,
I already have the perfect van park very close to Batemans bay ,
as soon as I get some numbers I will book the spaces. The facilities
are exactly suited and is a great place to have a couple of days to
start and warm up from. I have done a few tracks and trails which
are very close.(Peter is the expert in this area). The plan I have is
a couple of nights there to meet and greet and then the progressive
stop overs from then. So to all interested if I can get the numbers
early would be a great help for me to get the bookings sorted.
Cheers
Rick.

Well,
What can one say, when I asked for some input, I really got it.
This is going to be a trip to remember, I can feel it.
As of today 11/03/06, 2 days after posting tour announcement,
the Syncro count is 4.
This is one email I received from Peter could not go unlisted on
this site I quote:-

It sounds like a great idea and I'll be there for sure.

Assembly area: Were you thinking of Shallow Crossing? Lots of
space / facilities and the perfect staging area for the wilderness
country we will be heading.

There is some of the most spectacular country you will find in Ozz
in the Bimberamala National Park and the southern Budawangs.
Secluded campsites with pristine clear rivers full of Bass. Bush
tracks that rarely see any traffic edged with virgin forests
interspaced with shallow (shallowish) river crossings. Views of the
Castle, Mt Elliot and many others. Abundant wildlife such as snakes,
quall, gliding possums and once I witnessed a Lyre bird mimicking a
cat?? Yes there are ferals out there too including cross bread
dingos. Safety in numbers we hope. They will come into the camp at
night looking for left over beer?

Abandoned gold mines littered with old machinery. Holes sunk
vertically in the ground about the same size as a grave some
hundreds of feet deep with no protection. Don't go walking at night
without a torch, you'd never be found!

A metal detector can also be fun as it is gold country (I have only
ever found beer cans and tent pegs :-).

The tracks are narrow, rough, steep and at times littered with
fallen trees (chainsaw on board is a must). Real Syncro country!

Recovery gear needed, winch cable, shovels etc. Maaaate where we go
we'll need it.

1: 25000 topo maps and a GPS are also essential.

The main maps required are 1:25000:

Currowan 8926-1V-N

Brooman 8927 – 111-S

If there are any GPS users that also are familiar with OZIExplorer
software I can send through intended routes.

Life be in a Syncro

Hey All,

I'd be interested in coming along! The syncro should be in good
shape by the time Jan rolls around. Has someone put this in the
calendar? Make sure we all get a reminder and a roll call atleast
one month prior.

Please bring along recovery gear for when I get stuck with no diff
locks and little 4wding experience!

:) Sam

Welcome Aboard Sam,
Syncro count 5.
I had a quick look in this database file and did not see your name
there and so I am not sure what state your from. Maybe interested
members when you get a chance could update this data base and at the
minimum first name, email and state your from, this would help to
later arrange a few mini convoys to the meeting spot from each
direction/state.
Be assured I will be constantly reminding all on this site and will
be doing the calendar shortly.
Don't worry recovery gear will and help will be ot hand.
Cheers
Rick.

HI Sam

Dont you have a rear diflock? I thought all syncros had one.
You probably wont need it (unless we have a lot of rain) but just
wondering.

The Telecom Syncros didn't have them as far as I know.  A number of list members have ex-Telecom Syncros now.  The rest were available with and without rear diff locks.  The front locks were optional.

Rear diff locks were on the deluxe Kombi and Caravelle. The stanard Kombi Window Van had none.

Front and rear diff locks are very rare, probably less than a dozen in Australia.

Hi Phil,
Count me in for a mid year get together or any Syncro event for that
matter, as I am personally really tired of tagging along to other
VW events behind beetles and other variants.
Just name the time and place.

Maybe a good venue to discuss the 2007 TOUR as well.

Also are you considering attending 2007 ?
Regards
Rick

Good idea.

Unable to get time off work at that time of year.

Given the location of the 07 get-together, Syncros will be coming from several directions, so we will have tours en route to Bateman's.  When the Melbourne/Victoria numbers come in, it would make sense to travel together.

Similarly, any mid-year get-together could involve the same touring to the meeting point.
