Syncro wrecking on ebay

There is a syncro on ebay for wrecking. The motor is missing but all 4wd bits in tact. It's on the nsw central coast not far from a couple of members. Maybe they could check it out if anyone is interested. Bill.

Hi Bill
 
I had a look at that Central Coast Syncro only last week.The seller runs a VW workshop and owns a Syncro himself 
The Syncro body is in pretty good nick and .full of spare engines ( typicaly for a w/shop). The engine and engine mounting bar has gone . It has Telstra type rear bumper bar which he said he would sell to me for $200 but I figured was to heavy. He knocked back $500 for the gearbox which on second thoughts would not have had a diff lock if it was a Telstra van ( but no grab handles at rear ! ). He,s after $2000 the lot.

Graham,

Saw you and your boss on the freeway and through East Gosford today up to Erina driving your sports car.

Looks like a fun car to drive  (in summer when its a bit warmer). Your Mrs looked a tad cold.

Thanks for the heads up about the wrecker syncro. It would only be the engine cradle I would want anyway but that seems to be gone.

Oh well just keep looking for something nearby.

Ben , Didn't take much notice at the time but yes I think it was a panel van.
Also I just remembered the entire dash board was missing so no instruments etc.

Hi Scot
Good to see you on the roadtoday .You caught me in my other toy , a two year bare metal,part new chassis rebuild ten years ago and the reason why I wasn't at the VW nats.
Just back from our  yearly 'Brass Monkey Run 'started  3.30 am  Sun at Kariong to Mudgee for breakfast at 8.30 am via Eastern Creek and Bathhurst joined by 50 other classic sports cars.The only rule being hoods down the entire trip.
Syncronauts ain't the only crazy bastards out there.
Isn't the Syncro engine cradle the same as a 2wd engine cradle? I suppose not as one  engine sits higher. Sounds like you have plans to replace your 2.7 Subie with a 3.0 or maybe a 3.6. I'm interested.

Graham,

I suppose today would have been a heat wave compared with a couple of weeks ago @ 3:30am.

My plans are for a 2.5L 4 banger boxer scooby donk as the 3.0L and the 3.3L are just too powerful and in my opinion they would break gearboxes too quickly especially with my hoon wife driving.

Yes , the syncro cradle sits lower and I will also need the longitudinal cradle section from the gearbox back as mine has two scooby 2.7L engine mounts that wont fit the later scooby - especially with an RJES bell-housing.

Skot,remember also the VW engine sits 10 mm lower than the ej25.This is somthing that I overlooked and are correcting now.You have to space the moustach bar out 10mm from the body.
I have only just found this info since I have been chasing a vibration at 110-115 ks.
I have made a laser alligning tool to help allign the two flanges.
You will also have to modify the bash bar again.
Better pull the finger out if your going to do this by Christmas!!Maybe better to wait till next year.
By the way excellent purchase with your new car.
Did you know there is now a 12 month wait on Polo GTI if you want one.Thats ridiculous.

Ben,

When I get all the bits I need I will be harassing you regularly to get all the details of how to put this together. Michael from Townsville seems to have the engine cradle I need - problem is getting it down to Terrigal NSW.

With the crashed car and Excess payment and new car purchase - a lot of my new donk funds are gone.

I will see what happens in the next tax period and hopefully get some more bits then.

I suppose today would have been a heat wave compared with a couple of weeks ago @ 3:30am.

My plans are for a 2.5L 4 banger boxer scooby donk as the 3.0L and the 3.3L are just too powerful and in my opinion they would break gearboxes too quickly especially with my hoon wife driving.

Yes , the syncro cradle sits lower and I will also need the longitudinal cradle section from the gearbox back as mine has two scooby 2.7L engine mounts that wont fit the later scooby - especially with an RJES bell-housing.

Sounds enticing but I could see big dollars there.

I have an acquaintance that had a T2 bus with a 3.0L fuel inject Porche donk and it cost him around $20K to install and lots more in fuel and to maintain. He also had a Porche 5 speed to handle the power.

Went like a rocket ship and he often had the speedo going all the way around the clock and back the other way.

I still have eyes for the 2.5L scooby donk. It just seems to tick all the boxes.

Its a pretty common transplant. Lloyd who owns Volkwerke in Melbourne had a t2 ute with a Porsche engine and the original gearbox. In first gear you could lift the front wheels off the ground! Greg E

It has Telstra type rear bumper bar which he said he would sell to me for $200 but I figured was to heavy. He knocked back $500 for the gearbox which on second thoughts would not have had a diff lock if it was a Telstra van ( but no grab handles at rear ! ). He,s after $2000 the lot.

Yes,

I was sort of hoping for that too. But it seems they are very difficult to install using a factory computer which would be required to get the best performance and economy based on the quality of our diesel fuels here.

AS far as I have heard this has still yet to be done - I wonder how that French bloke is going with his suby syncro diesel?

Sounds enticing but I could see big dollars there.

I have an acquaintance that had a T2 bus with a 3.0L fuel inject Porche donk and it cost him around $20K to install and lots more in fuel and to maintain. He also had a Porche 5 speed to handle the power.

Went like a rocket ship and he often had the speedo going all the way around the clock and back the other way.

I still have eyes for the 2.5L scooby donk. It just seems to tick all the boxes.

My plans are for a 2.5L 4 banger boxer scooby donk as the 3.0L and the 3.3L are just too powerful and in my opinion they would break gearboxes too quickly especially with my hoon wife driving.

Yes , the syncro cradle sits lower and I will also need the longitudinal cradle section from the gearbox back as mine has two scooby 2.7L engine mounts that wont fit the later scooby - especially with an RJES bell-housing.

Looks like a fun car to drive (in summer when its a bit warmer). Your Mrs looked a tad cold.

Thanks for the heads up about the wrecker syncro. It would only be the engine cradle I would want anyway but that seems to be gone.

Oh well just keep looking for something nearby.
