T3 Syncro gearbox

Dean Coutts (Volkspower, Burwood, Victoria) recently bought a Syncro
with a wrecked gearbox for spares but found that it was otherwise in
such good condition that he could not bring himself to dismantle
it. He priced what was needed to rebuild the wrecked box and it
came to $7000, so he is now looking for a gearbox because he still
thinks that it should remain in one piece. Does anyone know of any
being available? If so, please e-mail dean@volkspower.com.au

The wrecked gearbox could be exchanged for the VW factory "austauch" gearbox.
That's what I did anyway when I needed a new gearbox. Cost me $NZ4500 but I was
desperate and it was worth it. Saved a hell of a lot of mucking about buying parts
piecemeal and finding someone prepared to even put the thing together. The box
looked like brand new (stamped 2001) and I presume it was assembled by trained VW
technicians back in Germany somewhere, who you'd think know what they're doing.
Having said that it doesn't shift very well from first to second but I'm hoping it will
wear in and improve.

It came with a year's warranty too.

Vincent,

Very valuable information and thanks a lot.

I will pass it on to Dean and hope that I do not need such a box for
myself.

[Syncro_T3_Australia] Day of the Volkswagen Vic.
Hi All,

just a note to let any one interested know that this Sunday is The day of the Volkswagen car show at Yarra Glen race course.

It would be good to see a few Syncro's there.

I've been off line for a couple of months, moved house and had to wait for ADSL to become available, I couldn't go back to a dial up connection.

I hear the decouplers have left Germany and are on their way, will let all involved know any up date I receive.

Steve.
