T3 Syncro Shockys & Springs, Lift Kit etc. ????

Hi guys.

I am new here and really happy to be finally a Syncro Owner.

I will put some pictures of my van on the forum tomorrow.

I am living 280km NE of Alice Springs, managing an Outback Store. Perfect place for a future "Syncromeeting" ;-) Own Mini-Uluru without Tourists. Great photospots.

www.redgumstore.com.au for some impressions.

I am actually searching a couple of good shockys, maybe Offroad and a springs lift kit for my syncro. Also 15 inch mercedes steel rims maybe?

I am taking all offers.

Looking forward to get some response.

Cheers

Seb
Good to see you made it Seb,now you are in the right place.
Try searching "suspension upgrades",as this has been a recent topic.

Welcome Seb,be sure the air filter on the syncro is the heavy duty style or a aftermarket washable......dusty roads and rear engine vw’s need this constantly looked after.......I am travelling next year with about 5 other vw’s all 2wd’s and  1 syncro   am wondering if our group leader can get in touch to arrange a visit ?   Another tip is tyre choice , as well as shock choice,  constant rough dirt road driving will damage radiator fan support  housing....the weight cracks the mounts as the syncro has the heavy duty fan fitted....therefore smooth travel via shocks and more important ....tyres side wall stiffness is equally important.....secondly be sure you have the fan belt guard fitted, small stones fall between pulley and belt throwing off the belt...factory fix is a small stone guard....may be able to help if you don’t have on fitted, although the later 91-92 syncros came std with this item....all ex Telstra vans had them fitted.  Cheers  steve muller

Old Man Emu from ARB are really the only aftermarket shocks generally available and most owners are happy with them.

For 15" wheels, Mefro brand appears to be the best option. Someone here will let you know how to order them from Germany.

Wow guys, thanks a lot. I have a feeling, that i'll get always help here!

I will get into this things. My best adress so far is syncro-services.com! It's pretty expensive to get the parts up here, but this bloke is really nice and helpful!

I see what i can do. Photos are coming soon, maybe tonight!

That'l be great to have you guys here. You don't need hardcore syncros to get here. It's all offroad but fine with 2WD. My aboriginal customers are going around with falcon & Co! Except it is rain season, and even then! Plenty help out here if boged. I have a Landcruiser Troopy here, too. Just in case ;-)

Cheers guys

Hi Seb. Welcome. How would the toyota community out there handle half a dozen syncros(OR MORE) rocking up. You must be our most remote member and live at the most interesting place on the planet. You're actually in the most central place for members from all over australia to meet. Bill.(Nambucca heads east coast)

Again welcome Sebastian.

Did you by chance Own a 2wd T3 Caravelle type van before this syncro of yours?

Would love to have a trip out to meet a fellow syncronaught in the centre of Oz.

I think you may have inspired the next big syncro adventure. I still need to do an egine swap and add another fuel tank before I am happy for an off-road adventure of that calibre (I'm another central east coaster). But it is definitely on my bucket list.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Sebastian ! Do you speak the language ?? (german) Only sometimes I feel a bit lonely ....anyway, I would like to be part of the Safari , after all , the guys need a mule to carry all the fuel for them

And the Doppelkabine is good for that. Has done it before 20odd years ago when the Toyos and Nissans crossed the desert, West to East (I think).

Must have a look where you are hiding, just been to Birdsville, Mt Dart, Williams Creek etc – no, not by Syncro, instead by air  inclusive engine out due to fuel starvation over Lake Eyre.

Switching to a full tank solved that,  300 feet above the wet...

Wow, all the entrys, i love that group. You guys have to come here!

Yes i actually have a 2WD Campervan 1989 WBX 2.1 with everything you need (Pop Top, Water, 3way fridge, Bucket Seats, Stereo with Subwoofer, Rock&Roll bed, Aluminum Rims, new Shockys, Bullbar, Spotties. I own it 1 year and rebuilt the interieur for the "Racefan" Little bit GTI Gens inside, nearly every day off ;-) Actually i am going to sell it, but it's not advertised yet. Can't keep both. I also have a really nice Subaru EJ20 WRX Turbo 1996 with an awesome engine.

Hard to get somebody out here to look at them. Both are in good nick and purr like 2 kittnes ;-)

Maybe you know somebody interested, for engine conversion aswell. But the Subi is in too good nick to rip out the engine.

Cheers

SOrry guys i have to get used to the many answers, looks a bit messy on my laptop.

I am actually german ;-) big VW Van ;-) Owned 3 Polos 1992's, a 76 Polo MK1 G40 :-) my father still ownes a 1974 beetle convertible.

Sebastian,

We are a friendly lot in the main and you are unique in that you are our first NT member after all the years that we have been a finite group.

Please respond to Harmut because he really does need some German contact.   He is, like me, a grumpy old bastard but is, like me, fairly harmless.

We have a full house German member, Joachim Dietlicher, who bought an ex German police Syncro, converted it to a camper, shipped it to Australia and toured the whole continent, including Tasmania .  With a bit of luck, he will read this and contact you.

Very clean Syncro Sebastian, couldn’t detect any knobs for diff locks though. Can be retrofitted of course... As can be the decoupler.

Is May 12 a good time to visit ? When is wet season ?

Good to have you on board !          Hartmut

That was in 2004. We were lucky to meet some very nice guys of the group in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Rockhampton, and really had a good time with you. Would love to meet again some day.

The syncro has not had rego since being back in Germany and has not been driven much. With a bit of luck, it will see bodywork and paintwork done over the next couple of months, together with an engine conversion.

You are right Les, I read most of the list's messages, but do not reply that much. Nevertheless, always willing to help. Just let me know.

OK, will do.

Thank you Phill. You know that applies to you, too - maybe combined with your next trip to the UK/Europe...

Cheers,

Excellent syncro there Sebastian with a well matched 2.5 scooby donk I see.

I would change that pod filter over living where you do - the dust will kill that thing.

Mine had a similar set up with my 6cyl scooby donk and that was the first thing I changed after a few dirt track drives. the filter would clog after every run as the wheels spit the dust straight at it.

Well set up vehicle in excellent condition though.

Cheers,

Skot
