pictured on page 19.8 in Bentley.
A chart of temp versus ohms is shown on page 24.19.
that still won't get you a part # though.
If you can order one for an 83 to 85 T3 van with 1.9 wbxr engine ..
that'll get you the right one., pretty sure.
there are a few mistakes in the Bentley manual.
one of the most glaring I know of is in the cooling system section for testing the waterboxer pressure cap ..
those 'not-that-reliable' blue pressure caps.
There picture shows pressure testing the very conventional all metal cap used on the 82 and 83 diesel vanagon.
They even tell you the adapter part number to fit the cap ..so you can use a regular pressure tester.....
When you look up that adapter number ..it's for the metal diesel vanagon van .......nothing to do with waterboxers at all.
I have had parts people not be able to look up a Temp Sensor II for a Syncro van ..
they'd come up with what you got ..the temp sensor II for a 2WD 2.1 waterboxer van.
Obviously ..
it fits the plastic t-stat housing used on 2WD 2.1 wbxr engines ..
that part will fit on your engine ..
but your aluminum t-stat housing is much better built of course.

Just found a reference in Bentleys 24.49 saying push in not used in syncro vehicles but no further reference to what is used in syncro vehicles. Anyone replaced one lately. Bill

The push in temperature sender for 2wd 2'1 wbw p/n 029 906 041a is not suitable for the 2.1 wbx in the t3 SYNCRO. The correct part is the same as the 1.9 wbxr motor part no 0 280 130 026 available from well stocked large city vw suppliers. Thanks guys much appreciated. This is particularly usefull for us country based folk who do most of our parts sourcing on phone or internet using part no's. Thanks again Bill.
