The Bus Film

Found this good article on the Syncro in Overlander Journal from the US.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8MD68iTTRHZb0JyVzU0NWNSRWM/edit?usp=sharing&pli=1

It talks of this film which whilst not Syncro specific, seems to have some good Syncro footage. Downloading now.

Jon,

They look great and seem easy to fit.

Plus they now have a rear arch almost ready.

For the front and rear they have been quoted as $400 US and shipping is $88Us to anywhere in Australia.

Not bad but I have other more pressing issues - like changing my radiator over to a new Behr Radiator of 48mm thickness rather than the 35mm piece of crap I currently have. The radiator cost me another $440 supply.

Fitting costs to explore Monday.

Cheers,

Skot

Next question.

Where did they get it from?

Are there any stickers/part numbers on yours?

Mick Motors have them for about $350.

Ken,

This one is direct from South Africa.

Part number VW 2109162

With another number at the base of the label:
8MK 376 713-631

The bus depot obviously has one produced and labelled with that part number.

It is definitely made by Behr South Africa which is all over it.

It is the same model that was fitted to Graham's syncro before his massive trip to WA. He said it ran cooler than ever.

Hi Scott,
OK while you have it out, for the record, can you run a tape over the new radiator L X W X D precise dimensions please.

Just a comment ... despite confusion as in past posts reporting wrong radiators supplied by the likes of Tooley Imports, not sure why this happens when the same radiator is specced for all 1.9 and 2.1 water-cooled motors, regardless of 2 or 4WD. Meaning exactly the same part should be unambiguously and readily available for all these T3s in Oz.
Cheers.

Ken,
The same radiator is for 1.9 and 2.1. A different radiator is for warm climates or vehicles with ac.

The thicker radiator was optioned for the USA and Australia.

Ken,

I went and checked the dimensions of the radiator in my box to keep you happy and I took some happy snaps:

The dimensions are overall width 665mm (plastic side tube to plastic side tube) or 590mm width core width and 460mm in height. The radiator is 50mm thick with the core 45mm thick.

See photos.

Cheers,

Skot

If there is a choice between less cooling capacity and more cooling capacity – the thicker the radiator, the more area of cooling fins, the more coolant comes into contact with the fins and the more the cooling – I will go for the thicker radiator, even if there is a big price difference.  We commonly get temperatures in the 50 – 60+ range over the bitumen in Australia and every bit of cooling helps!!
