throttle cable removal

How big a job is it to remove the throttle cable? I noticed mine is missing the rubber boot at the front (not sure if replacements are available?

Probably worth me removing and cleaning mine, as I'm not sure how long it's been gone.

Also a good change to double check I have the correct spare!

Richard

Pretty easy job Richard. Although not one you want to do on the side of the road if you can avoid it. Mine broke at the very front. Very exposed to the weather up there. I always carry a spare. Lots of posts on the site about getting the right one for our Syncros. I can give you the exact part number if needed. I think I got my spare from JK.

Hi Richard,
Easy job for you, compared to pulling the fuel tank!
Correct replacement RHD MV cable is:
There's never been a rubber boot included on the front end of the accelerator cable, so front end of cable and front end of cable delivery tube is fully exposed  to all the elements of dust, dirt, moisture etc., and likely a lack of cable lubrication. Hence why the cable eventually  fails at the front end inside the delivery tube.

Conveniently, for LHD only models, there is/was a protective metal casing receiver.

I'll see if I can find pics of my R&R accelerator cable and mod install.
Cheers.
Ken

I concur with Peter.

When I did my Subaru upgrade I replaced my petrol accelerator cable with a diesel version.

I used the old one to pull the new one through all the tubes etc to the engine bay.

Took a lot less time than I expected.

Getting the tension right took a bit of playing but otherwise an easy job.

Cheers,

Scott

Agree with Ken on the lack of rubber boot for the front end.

I got a rubber bellows to suit a type 1 beetle motor accelerator cable and fitted that at the front to help keep the crud out.

Better than nothing.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks all for the info. I'll check the throttle cable, I remember looking for the correct one, but want to double check before I actually need it!
Looks worth pulling out and clean/lube and see if I can fit a cover.

I'm almost packed for a few days on Fraser, should be a fun trip. In our group the only other VW is an Amarok..... Looking forward to getting away for a bit.
