Tired

Just finished a 3000 km gravel road run up through the centre of WA to Karijini and back. A beautiful trip at this time of year.
I thought Cooper tires were ok until this trip. Blew 3 tires and had to make it back to town on a plugged one. Whereby the tire mechanic said he'd seen a lot of the Cooper ATR's fall apart. I'm thinking Bridgestone for the next set.
Is anyone running larger than 215/75/15 on a standard motor ? How does it handle the gearing ?
Mark
Bridgestone have a bit of a reputation for that.

Get some BFGs.

Hi Mark, I ran 235 75 15 for a long time on my van. Gearing was ok but didn't like headwinds combined with slight inclines. Had to drop back to 3rd & wring every last rev out of it. I now run 235 70 16 (about the same diameter),but had the gearing on 3rd & 4th changed with some custom albins gears. This has proved to be a fantastic combo of tyres & gearing. Hope this sheds some light on where you're at. Cheers Eddie.

215/75/15.
Been stuck bush again and making my way home on front axle only.
Got a feeling this will be expensive !

In Coopers the 215/75R15's are only a passenger tyre. A friend of mine had Cooper Passenger tyres, had lots of punctures, wasn't a happy person, (but the salesman sold them to him as what he needed, WRONG) got Cooper LT's and has just come back from the Gibb River Road and what have you, without a problem. They weren't new either by the time he went on this trip.  So I think if you want to do a a reasonable amount of gravel, LT's are needed. As Phil says, BFG's could be the way to go.
