Tires

Hi all,

Thought I would ask if anyone is selling some tires before I go out and look for new.

I'm after commercial tires for original rims (205R14). Looking for very good used, happy for tires only or tires on original rims.

I'm in Brisbane, probably not worth freighting tires in if your a long way away.

I have run Michelins (agilis) on the Syncro and my T2 before, so will most likely get them if no one has a good used set (if anyone knows a cheap place to buy these?).

I have been procrastinating on tires for a while, I have a half worn set of off road tires and given the driving I do I'm better with a good set of commercial tires and put the 4WD tires in the shed and put back on when I go out for a little fun,

I'm not fussed if tires are not worn perfectly even, I usually leave the tail shaft out (and plan to get a decoupler at some stage)

Thanks,

Richard

OK, nothing's ever as simple as it seems.

Original tires are 205/80R14's. Seems today they only sell 205/75R14's, (I am currently running 215/75R15's)

Just wondering, looking at the diameter differences, the change up to the 215's from original was not a big difference to drive, so just thinking the drop down to currently available tires will not be significant either (and at least the speedo will be slightly low instead of high).

But it leads to the next dilemma, I have two good sets of tires on 2WD bus's not currently being used, 185/80R14's and 195/75R14's.

Just wondering if I use these instead of buying more tires. The 195's are on factory mags (6J14's, ET30), so will bolt straight on (just need nuts for the front)

The original Syncro tires have 20mm usable tread depth, so theoretically when worn down would be smaller than the tires I have here.

Richard, when commercial tyres have no aspect ratio in the sizing they are 80 series. So you are looking for 205c 14. Gregor

Probably the 2wd t3 tyres you have don't meet the load rating specified for a syncro.

The following guide may help explain the differences ...

Thanks all for the comments. Yes well aware of load ratings. All kombi's are commercial vehicles, so have always needed commercial tires.

All tires I have are load range 100-109, so are OK for the Syncro.

(QLD allows tires for 4WD's to be up to 50mm larger and 26mm smaller also)
