Trakka question.

Hi all, I recently purchased a not going Trakka 2wd, for a good price so that possibly one day I can turn the Syncro into a camper with all the good bits from it. For now I would like to fix it and use it as is. I've been reading the Trakka manual in the files section to understand how some things are meant to work.
My question to the experienced Trakka owners is, how is the auxiliary battery meant to charge when it is plugged into 240v. Is there a charger hiding somewhere or is it more obvious and perhaps missing from mine? Also has anyone regassed their pop top struts or are new ones readily available? Thanks in advance Eddie.
I don’t know about Trakka, but mine is under the front passenger’s seat.
There is a well there just the same as the one under the driver’s seat.

Hartmut is correct. See the attached pic of original charger. It sat on the floor in the forward cupboard and plugged into the power point on the drivers side B Pillar. You should find at the rear of the cupboard the figure 8 pair of cables that connected to it, unless original wires have been removed/upgraded. These wires connected to the camping battery in its box under the rear seat.

Thanks gents, camping battery is still there but charger it would seem is long gone. Thought it might have been hard wired to the 240 v but looks like it had to be plugged in manually. Have to hunt around for a suitable replacement probably need to sus out a solar charging system as well.

Hi Eddie,

During next week I'm hoping to complete info I have on the replacement poptop gas struts I installed on my Trakka back in 2008. Worth at least a read, no doubt others here have also been down this path and have their own experiences to tell as well. Till then.

I had back door struts re gassed

Here's a few pics of the Great Central Road trip.
An awesome journey especially when it's wildflower season.
Something about Uluru makes it an almost religious experience.
And that's coming from an atheist.
Cosmo the Syncro ran well. It can be a demanding drive on some gravel tracks.
You have to let the tyres down ( 30psi ) and go like hell to deal with the corrugations.
That's ok until you hit a washout or have to cut a corner to deal with the track.
Perfect terrain to have an AWD vehicle. They really handle well.
Used about 2 litres of oil over 6000km and averaged about 13 litres per hundred.
But all in all fantastic to pull into the bush and light a fire, chill out.

Looks like it was an amazing trip! We have not been down that way before, have only been to Alice either from Darwin or from Adelaide.

Did you see much traffic once off the main roads?

Great photos Mark. Will be taking my bus there one day. We did it in a hired Land Cruiser a couple of years ago and I agree how “spooky” it is seeing the rock for the first time. A spiritual place indeed, from another rampant atheist.
