Trakka top bed

For those with a trakka with a bed up top. My camper never had a top bed but it basically has all the structure on the fiberglass top to put one in. After calling Trakka they simply suggested two pieces of construction ply of which one slides on the other, appropriately covered, and with two matching pieces of foam. My question is this. How were the original beds up to fixed. Did they use velcro strips or was there something more elaborate to hold them in place? I just can't recall having not seen one for a while.

Best Wishes
Murray

When Joachim and Jasmin were with us, they pointed out to me that the two front doors are fairly easily opened. To protect against this, they had installed a sliding catch in the B pillar which engaged in the door frame. It could be opened only from inside the vehicle. The rationale for this was that the rear and side doors are extremely difficult to open, so entry to the vehicle was via the side door, after which the front doors were unlocked. This is not on the subject of central locking but it is a good security point.

Wow Ken, you have been busy. Was the central locking easy to install? I would be great to have it on all the doors. Its one thing I really miss moving from the caravelle to the Syncro.

Murray,

Don't bother.  I have had several pop tops, now have the Trakka Syncro.  Their original setup was indeed just two sheets of ply and rated to carry just 75kg - one average person or two small kids.

I tried several arrangements but have now gone to hardwood slats that concertina back to 19", less than half the length of the original two sheets of ply.  I haven't bothered to work out a safe loading because it would be in excess of 1500 or more kg, far in excess of the fibreglass structure.  I also extended the length while I was at it.  I am 5' 10" and like to sleep straight.  The original board came to near my heels and I couldn't get my feet covered properly, so I have extended to 7', which allows a very comfortable pillow and the ability to keep my feet well covered.

I use a pair of Roman Moonmats, self inflating polyurethane mattresses.  Unbelievably comfortable.  A bit pricey but you would never use anything else once you've tried them

Send me your home e-mail address and I will send you comprehensive pics of the bunk and full details.  (Don't want to clutter our website.)

Les
