Tristar to Germany

Keep an eye out for the next issue of the Australian VW magazine as there will be an article I wrote about the trip Hart, Paul and I did to Germany and Busfest. Should be a couple of photos as well. No doubt what I wrote will be edited as it was too long but hopefully the end result will be worth a read.

Hi Peter, Florian no longer is involved with Syncros. On fb i saw him being busy with his young daughter and his new house under construction.
You would have to try our usual suppliers like Van Cafe , go Westy or others. Try Rudi Purkhard too . If Ken reads this sure he can give us his em adr.

Peter,

Try AA Transaxle.

They produce the same quality roller bearing de-coupler as Florian did.

They provide good service too.

They are rather busy doing USA syncro gearboxes but they have these on the shelf:

Try them here:
http://www.aatransaxle.com/price_list.htm

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Neil, how's it going? Gearbox has done 150000km, decoupler 50000km, box was fine apart from oil leaks around decoupler, was going to ask Ron Schmidt to service it. ..didn't get around to it. Paid around  $7,ooo.oo for Reco gearbox from Ron. Thinking about price. Have 6x15x7 Mercedes wheels. Cheers Paul.

That looks very cool Scott.

Have you, or anyone else used them?

I have been planning for ages to get a decoupler, but have yet to do it. Am getting a little tired of installing/removing the shaft....

I did prefer to look of the factory style over the US design (not that I have experience with either)

Richard

Hi Richard,

Yes I have one of the AA Transaxle ones in my syncro.

It works great.

Cheers,

I bought mine from van cafe unit has roller bearings it works well the only trouble with mine is that it fails to disengage, i had paul muller look at it and he said that i had 3  leaks in the vacumn pipe also he said that the tube was not top quality he is going to get a new hose to replace the exiting one, i think it is better to obtain one in australia say from paul so that spares or service is not a problem
