Trouble Light

All,
My fluoro trouble light finally carked it after intermittent use over most of my lifetime. In my Trakka it doubled as an occasional overhead reading light in bed and handy as well to the engine bay.

It looked pretty much like this one, still available ...

The trouble I found with it lately is the diameter prevents it from slipping down between the nooks and crannies in and around the engine etc while looking at maintenance tasks. Need something slimmer.

There are a few on eBay with different features, some dearer than others, for example ...

I'm sure one could spend a fortune in time and money looking for the bees knees of trouble lights. Anyway I chose the last one for its slimness and being multiple LEDs and with an on/off switch.

Arrived today. Made in Taiwan. Has two holes at the top so you can thread a chord or hook through for hanging.
Quite bright. One sided of course so no reflected glare. Very slim, should sneak further in and around the engine and under the van.
Probably not meant to be THROWN around in a workshop situation.
Be great for Hartmut tucked up in bed in the spare wheel carrier bay underneath, reading The Bentley.
Cheers.
Ken

Ken, can I 'assume' that you ordered me a light too ? Sounds like it. Will p//u from when I see you !   Hart

Ken,

Is it actually 8.2mm thick?  It’s very hard to tell from the pictures.

Les,
It is 300mm long, 100mm of that is the handle section, 20mm wide throughout its length and only 8.2mm thick throughout its length.
Just tried it in the engine bay. As an overview light or nook n cranny light ... fabulous! Never had a light before that can slip through into confined spaces before like this one can.
I must say though, these LEDs typically produce a strong white light so hard on the eyes if you inadvertently look directly at them.

Just found the distributor, seems the light can be purchased direct from them ... located in Victoria as well! Not sure what the shipping charge is.

Probably handy to have two. One for the engine bay, one for the Trakka kitchen. Be way more energy efficient than the Trakka fluoro lights, particularly when away from 240vac.

Cheers.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  AAAArrrrrgggghhhh!!!!    HA!!!! I'm a hopeless mindreader.

Actually you should try it first, seeing as you can soon. Especially now I've found the distributor in VIC, so a bulk purchase for all Port Macquarie syncros etc could be made, well in time for Xmas, IF you like it!!

Of course if you like to record to a SD card, muse over a quiet beer whilst contemplating what trouble its seen; or post for evaluation on this site, this special (in Vic this Saturday) at Aldi for $99 might be tempting.
I'm thinking what if I linked it into Skype and solicited real time opinion from around the world whilst esconced under the syncro. My wife wouldn't see me for weeks.

This slim LED light is excellent and certainly a great assistance in a crowded engine bay.

There is another highly useful device which allows you to look through very small apertures and strongly illuminate what is inside.  It is a fibre optic extension that fits on a standard Maglite.  There are several on the market but all look like this:

http://edcreviews.blogspot.com.au/2007/01/maglite-fiber-optic-adapter.html

I have one and it has been invaluable.  It just pushes over the existing cap so it can be attached and removed in seconds.

Ken,
I finally got around to purchased the Trouble Light you suggested, direct from the distributor. Thanks for the tip, $66 for 2.
Certainly they need to be handle with kid gloves.
We booked in at Valla so, if any one else is interested I can get same more.
Cheers,
Theo

Hartmut,
This trouble light isn't a suitable replacement for the two Trakka installed fixed fluoro ceiling lights. A search might reveal a suitable replacement ceiling LED lights, albeit possibly harsher/brighter than the present softer fluoros.
