TX Valve - Presitige

Hello,

I am looking for the location of the TX Valve for my prestige A/C system. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also looking to replace this valve with a new compatable equivalent. Has anyone replaced the valve and do they have a name and model for the replacement.

Cheers Greg

Greg,  you find the expansion valve at the end of the high pressure line where it meets up with the evaporator (thats the radiator thing you find under your dash ---the thing that cools the air)

It’s hard to get to. Replace or keep – your choice, these things are not likely to break down or deteriorating .    Hartmut

Hi Greg,

The TX valve is located behind the LHS headlamp assembly (see attached photo). It is easy to remove. Use it as a sample when replacing it.

Hi Yurik

Too easy ----for you.  Mine is on the inside, not easy to get to.

Yurik/Greg,

Yurik is yours a Trakka ? Mine is and the valve is located inside, just had another look. Mine is pretty much original as I  am the 2nd owner and the other guy recorded all and everything. Also my cut out switch is different and uses a relay for load. Again, every Syncro is somewhere different.

Hi Hartmut,

My syncro conversion is a Trakka. It looks like the Prestige system had some variation in their components. I have one with components more accessible.  The cut out switch is not original – I have used a 3 stage pressure switch which incorporates a high-pressure cut out.

Greg do you KNOW your tx valve is u/s? Or is your a/con guy trying to cover all the bases? In 20 years working in dealerships I have seen less than five fail. If it has not been properly diagnosed I would do all the other work ( r/drier, compressor, retrofit etc.)and gas and check the system. Worst case your paying for two gas ups, but more likely in my opinion you will probably avoid an ugly dash out job.
Also as an update for those trying to get these prestige units running, I recent tested my vent mods on the road on a hot day. Results? Well the fan noise has halved since I trebled the size of the vent openings, and obviously the flow has increased. So now I can have 2 degree c air pouring onto the faces of the front occupants. Although the cabin does not really get cooled like a modern car those in the front can be comfortable. This of course does not make my two and four year old very happy. Untill I have time to think about a rear evaporator its back to windows and fans for us. Greg E

Thanks Greg, I will take your advice and leave it alone, we were just covering all bases while the system was open.

I am intersted to learn more about your modified vent set up. Have you documented the detail on this forum previously or is it a recent modification? Greg

Ok fellas will take photos in the next couple of days. Basically the opening behind the left hand and centre vent were only 1 1/4"hole saw -errr well holes! The centre vent is an addition next to the radio. So I have cut those 1 1/4" circles into 3" by 1 1/2" holes, sort of port matching for climate control. If you look into your vents you should be able to see the size of the hole in the evaporator case. Greg E

Thanks Greg, I will take your advice and leave it alone, we were just covering all bases while the system was open.

I am intersted to learn more about your modified vent set up. Have you documented the detail on this forum previously or is it a recent modification? Greg

Worst case your paying for two gas ups, but more likely in my opinion you will probably avoid an ugly dash out job.

Greg E
