Universal Joints for syncro

Hi all,

With the often discussed topic of universal joint replacement for the propeller shaft ... an "agricultural" uni joint usually is mentioned as the available/cheap though questionably durable solution.

Well I stumbled on two different quality solutions aimed at syncro from germany ....

https://busschmiede.de/shop/T3-Kreuzgelenk-fuer-Kardan-alle-Syncro-14-16-Zubehoer-Aussfuehrung-mit-Schmiernippel_1

and

Asking for deletion of the 19% VAT for international purchases might help final cost.

Cheers.

Ken

Hi, I have been a member here for a while, but not participated... for a while.

I just had my unis replaced on my Syncro.

So short history, I bought this Syncro, a 91 model, ex-Telecom van, 5 years ago, but unfortunately it sat for a few years. I had replaced a couple of bent push rods (a bit of the story in the Kombi Forums http://forums.kombiclub.com/threads/t3-bent-push-rods.52974/ if you have access)... basically sat for a while before I bought it and a couple of valves stuck from old petrol varnish, then when it was started, the lifter pushed and the rods complained......

Back to now, I just got it registered a couple of weeks ago and one piece of work to do was refit the prop shaft. Unfortunately on the front end the uni was a bit clunky and needed to be replaced. I was able to find 2 unis after contacting Hardy Spicer at Moorebank (their last 2 in stock in Melbourne).

The cost was $450.00 inc both fitted and balanced, and thanks to Scott for recommending them to balance at G6.3 spec rather than G16... ordered last Friday... was ready this Tuesday afternoon. Don't how good a price that was but I was expecting a lot more than that.

Will be fitting in the next couple of days, after I replace the float valves on the fuel tank , yes a bugger to remove engine and gearbox to do that piece of work!

Nice syncro John.

Cant wait to see it on the road and happily travelling.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks Scott, it needs some sprucing up though..

Actually would be interested in a short trip somewhere before Old Bar, to iron out any problems.

Its currently at Indian automotive, just given birth to its engine and gearbox (as you have seen), whilst I sort out the fuel tank, so would be interested in taking it out somewhere in the next few weeks with some fellow syncro-naughts as back up.

Any easy trips that this group does, coming up?

Looks fine John.

I hope we can get a chance to do it before Old Bar.

Got to find a weekend when I'm not working.

Cheers,

Scott
