Vale Hartmut Klein

Sad news folks, to all those that knew Hartmut (who was the owner of the only real T3 syncro tristar in Australia), Hartmut passed away mid day yesterday peacefully in his sleep.

He will be deeply missed by all.

His son in law Peter will advise funeral arrangements when he can - yet he is in Europe at the moment.

Scott, it’s so sad indeed to learn of Hartmut passing. Truly the end of a great era we all had with him.

I can relate to your selected pic showing Theo and I with Hartmut on what I believe was my last group syncro tour, also showing myself heading up the tour ahead of the famous red Tristar.

Will always remember and appreciate the group tours we had back then, especially with Hartmut.

Sad news. I bought my Syncro camper from Hartmut after he had it for a few years. It was 2 weeks after our first child was born and I flew from Melbourne up to Port Mac to collect it unseen. I camped at his place on the water and had a great night with him and Elke recalling many stories. In the following years we camped there again a few times on the way up and down the coast. We were always welcomed with open arms and had a great time.

Hartmut was a great man and true gentleman.

Thank you for sharing Scott, really sorry to hear the news. I also have many great memories of time with Harmut and staying at his place as we travelled by.

Our thoughts are with his family.

My condolences, fly high Harmut in Syncro heaven.

There will be a memorial service for Hartmut Kiehn on Friday 15 May 2026 at 2.15 at the Emmaus Chapel Port Macquarie.

Could anyone who is able to attend please let me know for catering purposes.

Hartmut was one of a kind, and his knowledge of VWs was amazing. He owned so many of them along with a variety of other vehicles.

Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter,

I cant use my syncro as its unregistered due to changing over to Classic rego from Historic.
