Viscous coupling replacement

With anything you buy overseas check the postage quotes there are differences

Hi Jon,

I seem to remember Gary Cookson sourced a VC from Classic Parts in Germany for a reasonable price some time ago. Might be worth sending them a query.

Hullo everyone,
I need to replace my vc so I am trying to locate suppliers and prices that are currently available. I have a decoupler to install so to do both replacements at the same time seems a good idea.
So farI have found -
Van Cafe rebuilt units US$695.00 + $300.00 refundable for old unit.
Berndt Jaeger new units 1600.00 euros + 350.00 refundable for old unit (ouch!).
AA Transaxle rebuilt units US$795.00 (still have to check on refundable deposit for old unit).
I would appreciate any help and advice members can give.

You beat me to it Francesca, i was just looking for their details but realise I sent them on with the van.

Jon, they were easy to deal with via email and I bought a new old stock VC and it was cheaper than the other places at the time plus no exchange requirements

Hullo everyone,
Has anyone used or know of someone who has used a rebuilt vc. I seem to recall some previous postings which questioned whether new plates were used or the old ones put back in.
As I am installing a decoupler and do not do much off road I am considering a rebuilt item as the cost difference from new ones is substantial. Any advice would be appreciated.

John,

I would be wary of a rebuild unless it came from a known source.  Mike Plompen has been selling new and rebuilt for a long time, so his would probably be OK.  Unless it is substantially cheaper than the Classic Spares price that Ralph Roden quoted, you would probably be safer with a genuine VC.
