VW Mechanic in Brisbane

Hi Syncronauts,

We finally made the move to Redcliffe Qld.

At the Safety Inspection for the Syncro it was noted – RHF and RHR wheel bearings need to be adjusted.

Well, as far as I know they can’t be adjusted  which means most likely new bearings.

So I will be looking for a VW mechanic close to Redcliffe.

By the way, there is a car dealership in Redcliffe which also sells  VW’s

Cheers,

Theo

Hi Theo.

Congratulations on the move.  I hope Redcliffe is kind to you.

Best Wishes for settling in and for finding a good mechanic.  Sadly I can't help you out there.

Cheers, Jim

Hi Theo
Front have cv joints and rear bearings

I bought a set of rear bearings about 3 years ago due to a bit of movement on both rear wheel bearings
Took it to a Syncro man in Perth for replacement and was told I did not need to change them
Vehicle is still running well today

Cheers

Nice spot to settle in Theo! Hope your surviving the heat currently.

Not sure on the best mechanics, Mick motors only do parts, no mechanical work.

Other than trying your luck at local mechanics, a few to try:

Custom VW Specialists     28 Hayward St, Stafford   (mostly into air cooled VW's but friendly and helpful)

Leon's Motors Pty Ltd     Unit 7/ 284 Musgrave Rd, Coopers Plains   (not sure if they do T3's)

And Rudi on Bribie Island  (I don't have contact details)

I don't have personal experience with these guy's, but they are often recommended.

You could also try a post on the Kombi club forum.

I'm not far from you (near the airport) if your ever stuck

Thanks Richard,

Yeah, the humidity can be a bit of a challenge.

I know Rudi. Bribie Island is too far.

I will give Custom VW Specialists a call tomorrow.

Otherwise, I will try the local VW Dealer.

I’m surprised that there aren’t more VW mechanics up here.

Thanks again,

Theo

Hi Syncronauts,

I’m still looking for a VW mechanic.

I left a message with Custom VW Specialists but no reply.

I also rang German Auto’s in Geebung, they don’t service T3’s anymore.

It is a bit worrying people telling you - we are not working on your car.

Even the local shop who does the Safety Inspection can’t do it.

Ah well - keep on looking.

Cheers,

Theo

Pheonix Eng is another one, but again no personal experience ,their in Woolloongabba (still a long way away)

For German Auto's it's a business decision, old VW's just become uneconomical to service with poor parts availability, and unfortunately some owners being not the best for paying their bills.

If your on Kombi Club I'd recommend posting there also.

Hi, I used Phoenix Engineering to replace a broken timing belt on my Golf-powered Syncro five years ago. Was very happy with their ability and commitment at the time.

Hi Richard,

I have now contacted 4 VW Mechanics, who advertise in the Yellow Page as VW Mechanics, but they are not interested to work on a T3.

Replacing the wheel bearing isn’t a hard job - I can do it if I have to but what about a more difficult job, what do I do then?

I checked with the local VW Dealer as to what they can do - only to find out that my VIN # is not recognized, and that, after more than 20 years.

Anyhow I won’t give up - eventually it will all fall into place.

Cheers,

Theo

Hi Richard,

Thank you for the info. Seems to confirms my experience.

I have joined the Kombi club forum - just need to find the time to explore.

I visited Rudi today and he can do the wheel bearings once he is fully recovered.

He spoke very highly of German Engineering on Bribie Island.

Need to check it out.

Thanks again for your help.
