Warm or cold beer in a 12vdc fridge

Gday all,

Away from 240v power for as little as 2 days, the recent Syncro 2007
Tour showcased to a number of us the inability of a 12vdc fridge to stay
cold enough for long enough. Nothing wrong with the fridge, but a lot
wrong with the onboard power generation equipment and batteries.
Clearly, in a typical campervan setup such as my Trakka, it does the job
ok provided 240v power is accessed regularly for system recovery.

So I'm wondering if this is a topic that members are keen to learn more
about, particularly via cross fertilisation of experiences,
investigations, publications and modification wish lists. Maybe we could
start an SIG (special interest group) on this topic either here or via a
separate email group as I suspect it could be far reaching in terms of
subject matter.

A fully sic cold fridge for the beer temp test on the next Syncro Tour
... who's up to the challenge?

Anyone? Register here. I'm in for starters. Cheers all.

Ken
Hi

Get hold of a 12v compressor fridge - they use way less power and stay much
colder than the dreaded 3way convection fridges.

My Engel can beat African tropical heat and keep my meat frozen for four to
five days without 240v power. They typically keep contents 40 degrees
celsius below ambient temp.I do have a dual battery system with a large deep
cycle battery. See here http://www.engelaustralia.com.au/

I have a few modifications on my syncro site. There are more coming when time permits.

Gday Thomas and ALL,

Thanks for the advice about Engel fridges. However for the purpose of my
new thread, the topic is more to do with exploring ways and means of
maximising 12vdc power generation and power storage in our syncros so we
can run a 12vdc fridge for longer than 2 days and avoid the issue of ...
for example, warm beer. Anyone wanting to start up a new thread about
fridges, please feel free.

Any more input about my new topic and registration of interest in an SIG
would be very welcome. Cheers all.

Ken
