Peter,
Ken Garratt and roger Bayley have put in a lot of effort on the cooling system to identify all the parts and find readily available alternatives. They will probably be of more help than the rest of us put together.

Water Leak and Part Numbers
Good morning Syncro
gurus. Have a small leak in a hose connection coming from the water pump. On
page 19.14 of Bentley it shows as the U shaped group on top left of diagram.
Been trawling through ETKA to find part numbers. Need confirmation from an
expert. I think the hoses are 025 121 058 G and J. Metal pipe connecting hoses,
025 121 060. Unfortunately leak is in the bottom hose join which looks like I
will need three pairs of hands to get to!!! Keen to fix leak ASAP before
driving to Sydney.

Thanks Ken and others. Much appreciated and showing the value of our group. This is my first “leak” since buying the bus so now I will get right into it through your file. That great quote of “VWs, making drivers into mechanics for 60 years” springs to mind. Cheers, Peter

Hoses were still in good condition and they were the originals with a strengthened section at the bend and some “corrugations” underneath the bend. Very well made. Passed the squeeze test with flying colours!! Turns out once we did a closer inspection the water was actually coming out of the water pump connection where the outlet (or is it inlet??) hose is located and leaking down onto the small pipe connected to the hose. What a fiddly job. With Hart’s help took off the water pump pulley and air con fan belt. Got the hex nuts off and replaced the rubber o ring inside the water pump housing. Luckily Hart had a spare o ring that I will replace of course. The other one was just about flat, not round at all. All up a time consuming job but well worth it for peace of mind, until of course I have to replace the water pump. Now that will be fun!!!! Peter from Port
