Wheel bearings

Many thanks to Les, BenC, Ken, Graham and BenT for answering my email re my wheel bearing problem. Ken, those quick links to the Just Campers site made things really easy. Graham, Thankyou for the offer of your bearings but as They are available I will buy them from a supplier.
BenC, you mentioned axle nut tension of 360Nm but my workshop manual says 500Nm or 360ft lbs. I hope you haven't used the wrong tension.

Regards

Jon,your workshop manual says 500Nm,because that is correct.360Nm for six slotted nuts(2wd),500Nm for 10 slot nut.Sorry for that error.I havent used the wrong tension, but have recently changed the rear wheel
bearings.

I have just finished arranging with my repairer to redo the rear wheel bearings with parts from Just Campers. As the previous cost from VW Australia for two bearings was $122.30 + GST and $103.83 + GST he has agreed to supply me with an extra sets of front and rear wheel bearing kits as spares to offset what I had already paid. A reasonable result although I would rather have had the job done properly the first time.
BenC, I did not know that there were different axle nuts and tensions between the different models - now I know something I didn't know previously.
Michael, My repairer did try some bearings from a local bearing supplier but they sent the wrong ones. Rather than persist he went to VW Australia in Sydney, hence the high cost. I wish I had been a member of this site before the repair was done.
Greg from Bunbury, nice to know that I am not alone. Have you had much need for parts and repairs? Perhaps you could let me know through this site.

Regards

Hi Jon
I have had moderate success with repairs down our way.

Red Light Autos in Bunbury are good for auto electrics, Bunbury Brakes were good and recently true track in Bunbury fitted my new springs where Opposite Lock started the spring job then shook their heads and told me they couldnt work out how to fit them.

Havent had to do much else over 3 years.(touch wood) Greg
