Wheels and Tyres

Hi everyone i am after some recommendations regarding too fitting 15 inch rims to my syncro.....i do have the tyres ready to go these are hankooks Z36 215/15-100 tread pattern similar to the dunlop adventurer, i believe merc steel rims are the go? any model in particular? 280-190??? also what about t4 t5? or merc vito? any suggestions would be muchly appreciated
Regards Richard.
Merc steels will fit but there seem to be two types with different offsets. You want the ones with 31 offset rather than 45 or so. From a C class i believe.

If you search through the forum under Merc rims I've put the part number up in previous posts.

You really need to change to tapered wheel nuts to match rather than the conical VW ones.

T4/5 do not fit.

Mercedes are too lightweight.

Mefro steel are good and can be bought from Germany.

Most wheels will need special nuts.

I thought Mercedes used conical nuts, guess I'm wrong, maybe there's a difference between alloy and steel.

Some T4 wheels will fit, my syncro came with T4 wheels but the offset wasn't great (still got these in the shed if anyone wants them).

Also got a spare set of 5 Merc Steel wheels, offset 31, really like the look of these on the syncro.

I'm now runnnig mefro's.

unfortunately I'm in Perth and I guess your not.

My dad managed to fit VW T4 steel 15 inch rims to his syncro no problem. The only issue was the black plastic caps needed to be hole sawed to allow the rear hub nut to protrude through.

He has had them on for about 8 years with no issues and has been down a few fairly rough tracks also with no issue.

Cheers,

Skot

Mercedes use ball taper nuts. They are a 12mm radius and VW use 14mm.

(Some T4 wheels will fit, my syncro came with T4 wheels)

They must have had the centres machined.

No, a few people on the forum have done it.

Phill
At least some Mercedes steel wheels, maybe just some, use 14mm, mine certainly do. Agree Merc alloys are predominately 12mm. I've two sets of merc alloys in the shed if someone's intrested.

The T4 wheels that came on mine are steel and I don't think they were centre bored, but horrible 40 something offset.

Hi Richard. A few of us bought sets of mefro 15” wheels from Germany in a group buy. They are fabulous and you can get very nice VW centre caps that fit well. The company also sold us new nuts as well

Check out the message history on the site and you will see the thread for the purchase and photos.

I doubt it would be economical to bring in just one set. They are very nice rims though.

Maybe contact Just Kampers, they may have something they could source.

The Merc rims are not load rated for a heavy camper, the vehicle they come off is usually lighter but most people here and in the US are using them without problem. The steel ones have the correct centre bore and stud hole size, just the profile of the nut seat is different to VW (Well the ones I had did anyway).

Finding 5 (or 6) that match is usually a problem, you may have to find 2 sets of 4 and then sell the spares. They do come up on Ebay from time to time.
