Wind screen snaking problem

To All,
Have I just been the unlucky one or has someone else had strange snake
like lines appear vertically top to bottom of windscreen (high and
lows ridges).
This is very noticeable when it rains and when the wipers are on, the
blades only wipe the water of the high lines of the glass resulting in
very poor visibility especially at night with on coming car headlights
shinning, I loose about 80% of visibility through the screen.
I have had two vans and both have had this trouble. If I rub my
sensitive fingers across the wet glass I can feel the high and lows.
Before I get new glass I am trying to figure out the cause or was it
just a defect in the glass.
For the record the rubbers blades are always changed regularly.
Any input is always appreciated.
Regards
Rick
Rick,

S'funny that you should mention this....  I have driven in the rain several times in the last week and found that I have the same thing on the screen.  To me, it looks like streaks of contamination on otherwise clean glass.   What you are feeling as highs and lows is probably your finger sliding easily on the clean bit but being slowed down by the contaminated bit.  I will be trying several cleaners on mine tomorrow and will report back.  Don't do what I did many years ago - I had a similar windscreen on a Beetle and tried to clean it with Scotchbrite.   That was a very silly thing to do and coast me a new screen.  Fortunately, it was in the days of flat screens and they were relatively cheap.

Hi Les,
I have cleaned the glass with many products thinking it was some
sort of grime, but this had no effect. Then on closer inspection is
when I found the problem was in the glass the ridges are definitely
there , let me know how you go.

Rick
