window seals

Question on window seals. Having a Caravelle, getting seals with the beading is a lot more expensive, but worth the effort to stay original I guess. Have read of a number of places people have used for seals, I see some recent posts on the topic on the kombi club also.

I have ordered one seal from Gunzl, Serial Kombi and Bus depot. Comparing the three they look/feel/smell (yes the rubber has a distinctive smell) identical. None have markings on them (eg manufacturer info).

I would assume there are not many manufacturers, so I would be guessing they are all from the same manufacturer?

Not sure if there's any way to pick a difference, so am thinking I can get the rest of the seals from who ever is cheapest? Prices vary a lot, some places have some seals cheaper, but not cheaper across the board.

Out of interest, what I have done in the past is just get windscreen seals as they typically are the cheapest, they can be cut to length and re-joined ( the originals are all joined anyway). At this stage shopping around I can get the correct ones though without having to cut/join.

Another point, it's the first time I have used Gunzl's, I found their freight very slow and packaging quite poor. Luckily the parts I ordered it was not an issue. Not sure if this is a once of, or what do people normally expect from them?

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Richard, where do you source the chrome strip from?
I have bought from Gunzl before. And just ordered some engine mechanical parts today from them.
I think from memory, it takes 2 weeks for delivery. I'll let you know. The packaging is ok.
If you buy German made products from the USA, you pay twice the shipping.
I find the GoWesty website, service and products hard to beat........but you pay for it, so it pays to shop around.
But GoWesty don't stock everything......including the Caravelle window seals.
Are you getting the windows tinted while the glass is out?
Gerald

Hi Gerald, I have ordered the chrome strip from each also, again I can't see any differences between them. Landed cost to me from each for the particular seal I ordered was about the same, so no have not really noticed German parts out of the US are dearer.

Delivery to me from Gunzl was 2 weeks. I have been finding most parts are usually here within a week from other places. They sent with Australia Post (well DHL who put on Australia post).

No issues, just wondering what is normal. The packaging certainly would have been an issue if the parts were delicate.

Yes, definitely find you need to scrounge for parts as different shops stock different parts!
Yes, will be looking at tinting (not sure what yet), just for the middle windows at this stage. Will look at getting a set of the rear sliding windows in the future.
