Wreckers in Melbourne

Can anyone advise where I might be able to get a (or two) swivel seat base. I know about the gowesty recycle bin, but the price with postage is a bit extreme. Has anyone used a generic one? Also looking for a t2 wrecker in Melb for those sunraysia rims you see on the later bays. Any help greatly appreciated. Greg E

Greg,

I have a pair that I am thinking of selling.

Les

Hi Greg,
Tony said he bumped into you while ordering fish and chips on Friday night (see what vices the boys get up to while I'm away). Having a nice weekend here in the nation's capital.
If you like, I could give my mechanic, Lloyd Davies at Volkwerke, a ring and ask him for you. He's a T3 and VW man from way back. Even if he doesn't have those particular bits and pieces hanging around his workshop, he might be able to point in the direction of a likely wrecker.
Francesca.

Les, very interested if you decide to sell, let me know. We need as much room as possible with two kids.
Francesca, Its good to know I am not the only one up to no good on a Friday night! About Lloyd, I actually bought my 2wd springs from him. Not the cheapest way of getting parts but certainly convenient. Had a good chat to him and even had a look at your blocked cat! He had bought a swivel new from vw in the 90's and sold it with his twin cab but had no others. Thanks for the offer though. Greg E

Greg, there's a wreckers in Dandenong might be worth a call they have a few T3s, maybe one of them would have a swivel

Greg,
Not sure about shipping as it has been 10 years since I sent a seat swivel to OZ. I am betting I can get it shipped for less than what GoWesty will ship for. Besides their price for a used seat swivel is US$150 each. I can get them from my local wrecker for US$80 each.
Your best bet is to get them locally for obvious reasons. If you can't persuade Les or find from a wrecker, I will be happy to assist you. Just a bit of forewarning though that if you commit to getting one, please follow through as I will be buying them from a vendor on your behalf at my cost. I have no need to buy one otherwise.
Sorry for making that disclaimer. I've had a bad experience trying to help a couple of members in this forum to get parts only to find myself having paid for something I did not need when the other parties changed their mind about the purchase. As they say here, "No good deed goes unpunished." Since members in this forum have helped me, I try to give everyone the benefit of doubt the first time out.
Incidentally, for a but more money, you can always try getting new ones from outfits such as Eurocampers.com. The owner Steve Lashley is a longtime member of the Vanagon List (forum) in the US. US$179.95 when in stock.
Cheers,

Thanks Ben, Its a very generous offer, if I can get one locally and avoid the shipping that would be best. If I do take you up on that offer I would only expect you to take action after I had paid in full. Thanks again. Greg E

Hi Greg,

I have a set of 5 sunraysia rims that  I will be selling shortly if you are still interested, they are in very good condition, let me know if you want them.  They are in storage at a friend's place in Coffs Harbour at the moment but I am intending to go and get them and bring to Sydney in the next week or so,

Neil.

I am looking to get $250 for the five rims.  I don't have a photo of them at the moment but they are (14"x6") and like new .  They look to have been bolted on a vehicle as the lug seats are marked but apart from that they look new. They came with some tyres on them that I bought and I don't need the rims.  I have posted rims to Melbourne before and I think it cost $25 per two rims.  I may be able to send them with TNT to a work address for a bit less.  As I said I don't have them here at the moment but I can let you know when i have them if you are still interested,

No worries Greg, good luck, I think 15" Sunraysias will be hard to find in that stud pattern, you may have to get Eastern Wheel Works to make them if you are set on that idea.

Just be aware when buying rough rims , I had mine painted recently at $ 100 a piece, so it’s worthwhile to get some idea what’s going to cost you before buying something ‘cheap’. Hartmut
