Yahoo Neo

I just wanted to let other members know that Yahoo is progressively changing people over to a new format (Neo). I have lost access to messages apart from e-mail notifications on this and other groups. So not everyone can see what is happening on the group properly. I'm not even sure that this message will post properly.

I too have lost access to a few things. I can no longer see all the photo albums and I cannot enlarge photo.

It's very frustrating.

Looks like another Yahoo inspired clanger in the making ....

Our website has been migrated to the new format – without notification to the owner, of course!  I find that I can still open the management function, so at least I am not locked out of my own website.  I will look further into this later in the day.

I have had a further look at it and the pictures and files are still there and still accessible.  The only thing missing is the management function to set the home page picture.  We appear to be saddled with the bloke on the mountain bike!

Les,
Appears to be:
Can no longer scroll through catalogue of pic folders and see owner or subject matter of all folders as you go. New system identifies ONE folder only now, and only after clicking on that individual folder.

Some pic folders are now showing as unidentified/empty.
I suspect some pic folders are now missing.

Thanks Les for checking through all of this 'unforecasted headwinds'!

Mark,

I haven’t checked it line by line and Ken has pointed out that we might have lost some picture folders.  It was so slow to load that I did not check it folder by folder.  The format of the files remains much the same but some smart arse appears to have decided to change the format for the picture files by loading up a picture for each file.  This is change for the sake of change, not for improved function.

Les - it is change for change sake. I simply don't understand the Yahoo decision making over recent years..... Methinks management made serious error when they knocked back Microsoft's offer to buy them for $46b a few years ago.

Hi Les,

Concerned that valuable files and material built up over many years could be lost. With that in mind have you considered moving the forum over to a privately hosted solution where control can be maintained over the years of valuable posts and material? Something like the Samba website would be ideal.

I have some experience in this field so would be happy to help if need be. Who maintains the domain www.syncro.com.au? Perhaps a forum could be hosted via the same infrastructure?

Cheers.

Jon.

Jon,

When I kicked this group off in 2004, there wasn’t a lot of choice and I went with the Yahoo format.  I am mindful of the possibility of losing data and I will look into archiving what is already there.

The www.syncro.com.au site is owned by Mark Kofahl.

Hi Les,

Yahoo has served the group well however they have been left behind on many fronts in recent years. For some reason they keep making mistake after mistake and don't seem to do anything well.

The forum actually work fine as long as you read via email. Perhaps the syncro.com.au website could hold the documents, files and photos as a first step. If yahoo pull the plug on that side of things at least these are safe?
