Your T3 Syncro too small? Need a bigger VW 4WD?

Well, if that's the case, this announcement may have something of interest for you then....

That looks really good Mark.

I like the off-road wheel model (the panel van) look and the 3 diff-locks are great.

Could be an awesome vehicle.

It will be interesting to see if trakka buy these in.  They are a little tall for the average bush track. Greg E

I know that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder but that thing is just plain ugly!   There just isn’t anything that has the clean, crisp lines of the T3.

VW will never ever replicate what we have in the T3 syncro ... not even close, in every aspect.

Long live the T3 syncro.

I agree.

The crafter looks like it has been belted with the ugly stick fairly hard.

Mmmmm.

2 adults and 5 kids.
Half a dozen surfboards and wet suits.
Fishing gear.
Camping seats and tables.
Cricket and football gear.
Sand castle making "equipment".
Kites.
BMX bikes, TT bikes and road bikes.
A 2 tonne caravan.

One of these would suit me perfectly and I want one!

And as for ugly, well...........I though the same of the T3 when it came out!

The 20000 euro price could be a bit of an issue in Au though.

Andy.

Hi Les,

Seems we have forgotten how much we didn’t like the T3 when it first appeared . We called it breadbox , wedge , snow white coffin and else.... This Achleitner  (like PUCH much better) conversion

Will have its market, that’s for sure , our ever increasing troops of organisations protecting us from all sorts of mishaps, will need those vehicles. Where the Mog is too pricy this one will fill the gap.

And when the first ones will enter the second hand market, the one or other will be converted into some sort of Trakkadidildu.

I like the thing

Hi Hartmut,

The VW engineering masterpiece the flat boxer reached its pinnacle in the development of the watercooled T3. Theres not too many T3 Syncros left in Australia that remain original, running well and rust free. Go Westy sell reconditioned T3`s now for US$80.000 as people realise how unique and cooler they are compared to there T4 & 5 successors. Its only a matter of time before these machines will become rarer and bring a much higher price tag. Theres only one way to experience the cool ride of a Syncro and thats to get behind the wheel and head into uncharted territory. The weight distribution and space inside is perfect

Hi David,

Will pass on your comments to my wife as we have still a garage left empty. Hopefully as I am , she will allow me one more. You are so right with your comments and I love the engine/gearbox symbiosis.

Hi Hartmut,
Just up the road at Coffs is were I call home. Good luck with filling the garage. If you have the $$$ there are a few good Syncros floating around the country for sale. Its a bit of luck finding a good one. If they have a history, privately owned and cherished, little rust, services attended, and running smoothly theres not much that can go wrong. Good Luck

Hartmut,

As I have said before, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.   I was quite pleased with the new model; I saw it clearly defined as opposed to the bulbous lines of its predecessor and still do.  The T4/5 went back to some bulbousness.

Dave,

There are in fact many T3 Syncros in Australia that are completely original, run well and are rust free.   Moreover, there are many owners who prefer  them original, as opposed to the extreme, bordering on the insane, ‘improvements’ that some inflict on their Syncros, particularly in the US.  (Sorry Ben!)

The recent Day of the Volkswagen in Victoria had a good display of well kept, rust free and bog standard Syncros; I suspect that much the same would be found in other states

No offense taken, Les. It might interest you to know that someone took one of the small handful of RHD Tristar Syncros and converted it to LHD.:-)

Although I might be slightly guilty for turning my Syncro 16 Doublecab into a 4-door & replacing the tired JX (1.6TD) with an AAZ (1.9TD).

As far as GoWesty sales prices, their record is over US$100K IIRC. You have to analyze how they come up with those sort of prices. Basically, they sell a Syncro Westfalia then add-on parts and labor. It's up to the customer and his wallet to get a basic tune-up or a full-blown ground up restoration. I
