Booster Upgrade question

Hi,
Just need to find out the model numbers of the BMW booster that fit a syncro.  I pick one up about year ago but could not make it fit.  Must have got the wrong one.  So what ones do I need to look for.  Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Michael R
Try this Samba thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=401822 it say an E30 series BMW '82-'90.

There is one on EBay which corresponds with one of the boosters on the above thread, you can see the numbers in the photos.

Does anyone recognise the steering wheel on the Syncro in the thread? Greg

Hi Michael

The part number for the BMW booster is 34331157416 and it can be found  on E30 models.  It’s a tight fit but works very well.

I have used Jack at Gold Coast Vee Dub. He installed my aftermarket a/c and did a great job he is honest and up front. Old school mechanic. Best to have a chat and make up your own mind.

Michael/Yurik, There are about 10 different part numbers of E30 boosters that will fit. They all have the same outside dimensions. I have fitted one from an early 318i and the one I have in mine is from a 325ci '92. When I worked for BMW I tried to work out the differences between them all but there was no information on etk. There were two manufactures, one was ate and I can't remember the other maybe lucas. It seemed that each manufacturer made one of each and they were all interchangeable. It would be fair to assume that if there is a difference it would be best to get one from a six cylinder, ie 323i, 325i, 328i. They made the coupe and convertible into '93 a couple of years after the sedan stopped. These would be the best to get boosters from in my reckoning. I will try and dig out the part numbers I have used later. Greg E

I wanted to ask you about Rego of your syncro? Is there any difference in the price and what code do you have on the rego/green slip?

Also do you know about Qld rego to NSW or how to check out interstate Syncro's?

Hi Leighton,

I thought I'd reply as I just bought a Syncro from Vic and registered in NSW.

Mine has a pop top and rock n roll bed, sink and stove so is registered as a mobile home (code MH) which I've been told makes the cost a bit cheaper.

By the letter of the law if you want to register in NSW from interstate and the vehicle has aftermarket modifications (like a pop top roof) you need to see an engineer before getting a blue slip. If there are no aftermarket mods you can go straight for the blue slip.

I had my van booked in for some work with Steve Muller in Annandale, and he was able to help me with his contacts to make the process much easier. I realise he's not close to you, but if you can find someone local to you with similar contacts then this would be the way to go.

Good luck with it all,

Paul.

Leighton,

I would agree with Paul here.

As that syncro in QLD you are looking at is camper converted you will need an engineers certificate unless it comes with a certificate?

You will also need a blue slip.

I would suggest you go to a blue slip place and ask them if they can recommend any engineers close by.

Cheers,

Skott
