Well looks like I need to go and buy another magazine!

Hartis,

Why would you need panic handles? Do you not have the handles with
lights and hanger hook over each door?

Incidentally, I discovered a few years ago that the same handles
(except grey instead of black) were in cars such as my 1989 Audi 200
Quattro Avant. Handy retrofit for from cab of any T3.

Ben,

If you have a stuffed spine like mine and you own the Transporter version, you get a second handle from the wreckers and put it on the RH A pillar.  Saves a lot on chiropractic treatment!

Les,

I realise the benefits of having the extra handle. I just thought Hartmut's Tristar might have a handle over the driver's head as well.

All of our Syncros in the US have the panic/grab handles over the RH A-pillar. Apparently, VW saved Deutchmarks sending our LH handles to you.;-)

Hi Hartis,

I am disappointed to learn that the word 'star' means handle as it applies to your Doka. Several of the Tristars I have seen in person were not 'Tripods' such as yours. Each were generously endowed with the folding handle overhead plus the A-pillar grabhandles on the RH A-pillar.

However, it would appear VW applied the same austerity methods to the German and Swedish Tristars. As I mentioned to our dear Chiropractic saving Les earlier, VW sent to those handles you 'wrongside' drivers again!

;-)

All my best,

BenT

Isn't that a shame that my Syncro is undergoing cosmetic surgery to make her look like Harmut's Tristar? SdM is less than 2 hour's drive from me.

Well, there's always next year. Or maybe catch a ride on one of the many passing Syncros.

My RHD Tristar has the two grab handles only on both the A-Pillars and only one combined handle come light on the passenger side.

Volks.
My Syncro subsequently had an additional OEM handle added in the correct position which I reckon slightly reduces forward vision. Notice my ordinary Japanese passenger car (Camry) supplies them above all 4 doors EXCEPT the driver's. Wonder if the driver is expected to haul themselves in and out using the steering wheel or whether VW reckoned that Syncros should only be driven by people who don't panic easily?
Cheers
Roger
This link shows when use of a panic handle might just possibly be justified.(unless you're British)

I hope you liked the article, not much real info in it but I have lots of photos of the event.  Now that the article is published I will post some of the photos showing some of the other action and close up shots of the vehicles that were there.  If we want to see more Syncro content in VWMA we just have to go out and write about our adventure.  The next trip my sycnro is doing is the Anne Beadell Hwy in June.  Just a pity I can't make it but my father assurer me he will have fun.

Cheers,
Michael

Could you enlighten me on this VW Mag and story. Maybe I have missed a posting. Would be most interested in reading the article and seeing the photo's.

Regards

Michael

Hi all
Well, we think we know something about syncros, let me tell you something we know very little and have seen nothing, I have just come back from mammut park, where there were about 500 syncros, all different, with there own little personnel touchs, they came from all corners of Europe, I spoke some time with Jean Louie Brion (busmans engine man) about TDI engines and gear box to suit,he uses a lot of Albins gears, I also spoke to Mike (the busman) very briefly, he was very busy with his cut down syncro doing tours. The offroad section was unbelievable, as you have already seen on u tube, there was cars going in all direction, and plenty of them.  My little memory stick in my head is over loaded.
