Cylinder heads

Hi guys,

I’m building up a DJ motor. Need a couple of used heads in rebuildable condition.

Anyone??

Cheers

Mark

Happy to pay of course!!
Hi mark. I have a complete  motor sitting around. would have to check what the heads look like. but was running ok when removeded
Hi John,

I am in a similar situation where I have a running motor, but I'd like to keep it a spare.

I'm looking at about $1500 for a pair of new heads. Re-birthing an old set might cost circa $550-$600 so its a tough call. I was hoping some had a pair sitting on a shelf that were rebuildable.
May be I use mine?   Not sure waht to do.
Of course throwing buckets of cash always seems to fix a $inkro

Cheers
Mark
I know someone who is pulling a 2.1 engine from a reco motor due to it having massively leaking head gaskets but almost zero kms on it since the rebuild and new AMC heads.

He has promised the block to someone already but he may have the heads available.

I will ask him this weekend.

Cheers,

Scott

So if it's a reco motor with new heads, what went wrong? Scary to think some one spent a lot of $$ on a motor to have it fail. Is it poor workmanship, or poor components?

What do you consider the "head gaskets", is that the water jacket seal, or the barrels into the heads?

Richard

Richard,

It was a terrible waste of good parts.

The head gasket was so poorly installed it leaked near immediately. I think the previous Owner got about 200kms out of it before it started to leak internally and play up.

Coolant leaking out and into the oil.

The oil looked like very milky coffee.

We added water to the coolant tank to fill and it started coming out the oil filler.

It was gone.

Huge shame someone did the work that had no idea how to fit a head gasket.

It made a good parts donor though.

The Owner seems now keen to hang onto the heads for his spare motor.

I will work on him to let them go on Sunday.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Mark,

The heads that were on the motor we pulled today weren't the best - they needed some new valve springs due to rust and were full of creamy gunk due to a broken head stud.

See photo.

However, Graham from the syncro club rang and said he had a set of AMC heads in great condition.

One head has a tiny crack between valves but the other is perfect and both have no corrosion just some gasket debris.

Graham said he will part with them for $200.00. plus shipping cost.

He also has his beloved syncro with fully rebuilt engine tentatively for sale for $24k.

A couple of photos attached.

For contact with Graham - try 0412 432 151.

Cheers,

Scott

Are the parts be you pulled not recoverable. Sounds like a poor engine rebuild, broken valve springs and head studs?

Can you put me in touch with Graham?

That engine was a mess.

See photo of the motor with the "cream" pouring out of the intake ports.

It was through everything - in the exhaust, all through the fuel injection and air intake systems. A total slime fest!

Hi Skot.
I'm seeking a good camshaft. Can you see if that engine being disassembled has a one available please.
I rebuilt my engine with all new parts a couple of years ago. I had the cam reground by Waggots in Alstonville. I used new Febi lifters.
The engine starting getting hot on occasions running warmer the. Usual and I decided to pull the heads. I found that my lifters from the rear cylinder are badly worn as is the cam.
Now I find out from Janian at Stokers that he has found reground cams and febi lifters are not compatible.

Unfortunately Paul - the rest of that engine has been promised to Nils on here - which he requested from Phil prior to the engine being removed.

Maybe contact Nils - he may have a spare lying around?

Subject: Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] Re: Cylinder heads [4 Attachments]

Cheers,

Scott

I know someone who is pulling a 2.1 engine from a reco motor due to it having massively leaking head gaskets but almost zero kms on it since the rebuild and new AMC heads.

He has promised the block to someone already but he may have the heads available.

I will ask him this weekend.

Cheers,

Cheers
Mark

Unfortunately Paul - the rest of that engine has been promised to Nils on here - which he requested from Phil prior to the engine being removed.

Maybe contact Nils - he may have a spare lying around?
