Hey Skot,It never occurred to until now that I can probably source the part locally and dispense with the delay and cost of having the vendor you were considering ship the item to me first.California is the epicenter of foreign car imports in the US and likely the best place to get parts for same.I still remember the first time I saw a Subaru at my local VW dealer with the plates 'URABUS'. I didn't realize the dealer had started selling Subarus as well. The asked the couple driving the Subie what sort of VW bus they drove. To which they responded, "It's Subaru spelled backwards, son. We get asked all the time."That was about 3 decades ago and much earlier than the time when people started putting Subie engines in Vanagon or any other VW's.Regards,BenTThanks Ben T.I need to wait till Monday to see what we can do with my existing one - it is all electronic so it should all be fairly good in theory - unless the whole thing shorted itself.I will let you all know as soon as I know the damage.Cheers,Skot----- Original Message -----From: BenT SyncroSent: Wednesday, January 05, 2011 9:45 AMSubject: Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] Re: DC or single cab T3 wtb syncro or 2wdSkot,If the extra shipping doesn't bother you, I can accept the shipping for you and forward. Ben T,It appears the need for a new distributor has arisen as all efforts to rectify the issues using parts obtained locally have been fruitless and the constant incorrect part feed from the largest distributor of these parts here in Oz means I am barking up the wrong tree.I would really like to get this bus operational as it takes up a lot of space just sitting there as a 2 Tonne useless lump.Let me know how to contact you directly or email me on spbconsulting @bigpond.com and we can hopefully get this OS transaction underway. Thanks again in advance.Cheers,Skot-----
Does anyone know anything more about the T3 ute on ebay and is does anyone live in Goulburn that could possibly go take a look at it for me ?

Hello Roger that would be great if you could
my main concern is rust in the tray area around the join to the cab and under
the tray area
here is the link
I know the vehicle. Ed is a VW enthusiast. I rebuilt the engine myself a year or two back after the dreaded coolant leak. We didn't stint on anything - even imported some of the hard-to-get parts from the U.S. including a scmick ceramic-coated pipe junction to the d/s cylinder head.
As I recall we fitted brand new heads, barrells and pistons, cam and followers, mains, big ends[with new bolts] and cam bearings. The crank was in excellent shape, didn't need a regrind. New oil cooler, water pump. coolant hoses, plastic junction, injectors and fuel hoses. Rebuilt distributor, and some new sensors, coolant cap, distributor cap, leads, ends and plugs. I'll see if I can dig out the list, but Ed has probably still got the receipts. Cost him a fortune. Engine should be trouble-free for many years now.
The only minor problem was that the oil drain plug thread was partly stripped in the bottom of the crankcase. I helicoiled it and fitted a threaded plug with a smaller 8mm sump plug. Just means that it takes a minute longer to drain the oil.
He bought the car from Sydney around five years ago and I remember he told me that the previous owner had the gearbox reconditioned.
Ed has used the car for a daily driver.
I'll give him a call and check it out for you.
Cheers, Roger [Beetle].

Eddie came round this morning so I could check out the ute for you. We did an oil and filter change, and lubricated the locks, hinges and linkages, which gave me a good opportunity to check it out. [I told him you had asked me to do so].
There is no rust at all in the tray or the treasure chest. The chest is clean enough to eat out of, although the tray and wooden strips show signs of being used as a working vehicle. With a coat of paint and new slats it would look good.
Eddie says that before he put the fibreglass canopy on, he always parked it on a downhill slope so the rain could drain out the back.
The gates are straight and unbowed.
There are a few minor parking dings and scrapes, but the bodywork is straight.
The front passenger's door was left open when Eddie's missus was backing down the drive, and caught the gatepost. The door works fine but probably needs replacing.
The driver's door has dropped a little, but the hinges are not sloppy.
The rear doors are in excellent condition, with only the odd minor parking-lot ding.
The paint looks great [from across the road] and would come up well with a cut and polish, but the previous owner polished it so much that it is thin in places. Budget for a respray if you want a really smart van. The nose looks like it has been resprayed in the last ten years or so.
This is a twenty year old working vehicle that has been used every day carting building materials. But it would come up a treat with TLC, minor panelbeating and a paint job.
The only rust I could find was some minor bubbles under the windscreen seal and a scab of rust as big as my nine year-old niece's little fingernail on the nearside sill panel, with a tiny perforation.
The front seats need retrimming but the rear bench is fine. The rooflining has a couple of small holes and one torn flap about as big as a Christmas card. The door linings are far from perfect.
There are a couple of creaks and groans from the front suspension which sounds like it needs new upper A arm bushes. [a straightforward job that takes a couple of hours].
The shock absorbers are tired and the handbrake and rear brakes need adjustment. [Self-adjusters have probably gone on strike].
We cleaned, inspected, OK'd and repacked the cv joints a few years ago, with new gaiters.
The tyres match and are good LT radials.
Transmission works well and the gearchange is good. There is no slop in the bushes at the bottom of the lever. I tried the old accelerate and back off suddenly in reverse trick, but it did not jump out of gear.
No oil leaks.
Armstrong power steering was fitted [i.e none at all] which Eddie reckons is not a problem. Guess I'm just getting soft.
While it was over the pit I had a good look and everything looked fine.
I forgot to mention, when we reco'd the engine we also fitted a new muffer and tailpipe, oxygen sensor, and after a lot of hassle we tracked down the "Last two new plastic coolant pipes in the country".
Eddie's idea at the time was to build a car that he could drive anywhere, summer or winter, with his family aboard, without fear of breaking down for the next ten or twenty years.
We didn't replace the radiator because it didn't need it - the previous owner had done so.
It looks to me like a good unit that just needs some minor panel work, upholstery and paint job to make it look schmick. Mechanically, apart from a few simple issues that could be fixed in a single day, it should be reliable for many more years.
Eddie has a genuine reason for sale and he is reluctant do do so - but something has to go - either the splittie, the classic Holdens, or the ute.
I think I might have done you no favours by telling him which I would sell. Last time I saw him he was reconsidering .....
In passing I should say that I'm not entirely comfortable trying to steer a middle course between being loyal to a mate, and trying to give an honest appraisal to a forum member - but my advice to you Aaron is that, yes, it is definitely worth your while to come down and have a look. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do,
Roger.
