Ladders tanks etc.

Hi Scott,
picked up the consignment this morning and it is sitting in my yard on the trailer.

Unfortunately I cannot do any more at the moment because my knee blew up while driving the Syncro this morning.
Very painful and difficult to stand and almost impossible to walk.
So looks like I’m incapacitated till the swelling goes down.

Any way, it is safe where it is.

I had to pay QANTAS a fee, will copy it to you when I can get to my work station scanner.

Peter
Cool, any news on the Melbourne shipment? Greg

Greg,

The Melbourne shipment is still in transit as far as I know. I have been chasing Ian for this as soon as I heard the Sydney shipment came in.

This was Ian's advice on 12/1/15:

"...Melbourne shipment still in SA for some reason. Will keep you posted. I went as low as I thought believable with the customs invoice. Didn't want to run into problems there. Don't know if it will make any difference but get Peter to let Customs know these are for personal private use and not for resale...."

I will keep chasing him.

It worked out we had to pay about $500.00 extra on pick up for all the customs duties, GST etc etc - plus Peter got charged another fee today.

Once I get the final figure we will split it evenly between the recipients - probably about $100 each for the Sydney crew.

Greg do you have a customs agent - as it seems we will need one down there.

Not sure if the Sydney one can do it?

I will let you know as soon as the load is about to board the plane.

Cheers,

Scott

PS - thanks Peter - sorry to hear about the knee.

This is one of the forms that scared the hell out of me.

I was a total virgin at this too - lucky Peter knew what to do and knew of a customs agent.

You will need to pick up from the airport too - your address seems to just be for billing.

Just split the costs between the Victorian contingent - I'm sure it will be much less than ours as we got the bulk of the goods.

Once the shipment is on the plane it gets here within 12 hours - very quick as its on an aircraft.

I am used to buying stuff from California USA and it taking 2 weeks to get here even via air freight.

My last shipment from the USA went via Fiji (must have had a quick layover on the beach - lucky bugger) - no wonder it took a while and that was from Go Westy. The various international postal services do what works out the best for them - not us.

But Ian's shipments seem to go straight here.

I will keep chasing Ian too.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Scott,
Not in perfect condition but back home after a night in hospital.
Somehow, the doctors could not tell me what caused it but I had internal bleeding which causd swelling in my right knee.
They tested me for all the nasties they could think of, then stuck a needle into the knee and deflated the swelling.
Now that I can walk "limp", couldn't at all when the ambos arrived, I'm back on winding up the details on our consignment.

My costs:
Please find attached a copy of the QANTAS invoice, which I paid.
Also:
The round trip with the trailer on the back was c.160 Km, so could you put me down for $30.00 for petrol.
I avoided toll roads this time.

I haven't unpacked the pallet as yet, but Ian has wrapped the contents in clear shrink wrap and it appears that he has labeled every item,
so we should not have a problem with each person getting exactly what they have ordered.

Please ask the guys to ring me to arrange a time for them to pick their order up.
I'm here most of the time, so should not be a difficulty.

Hey Folks,

Peter has picked up the NSW/ QLD shipment of tanks and ladders and unfortunately the Australian Government has decided to stick their hands in our pockets and tax us as much as they could. Basically the customs agent, customs fees and GST charges totalled about $470.00 and the Qantas stuck their hands in our pockets as well to the tune of $160.00.

Peter has paid all these fees himself to date and that is not fair in my opinion. Peter is also storing the items in his shed in Sydney for us.

There are six of us in the northern contingent apart from Peter (who only bought a ladder) and I thought we could spread this cost evenly. It works out to $105.00 each.

For the following people:

Peter Kolevas $105.00
Roger Bayley $105.00
Paul Nevin $105.00
Colin Bennett $105.00
Richard Beckers $105.00
Scott Pitcher $105.00

Does anyone have any issues with this?

I am sorry, this is the first time I have ever imported anything and I assumed it would be delivered to Peters door without customs interference - yet this was not the case.

We would have all incurred much greater costs if this was done individually as it would all have just landed at the airport and we would all have to get our own customs agent to extract it from there.

We can pay Peter either by direct credit (which I will do) or give him cash when you pick up your goods.

For pick up from Peters place, these are the following details:

Peter Schweinsberg
297 Hinxman Road,
CASTLEREAGH, NSW, 2749.
Australia.
Tel: 61 (0)2 4776 1009
Mobile: 61 (0)417 411 493

Please pay and pick up from Peters place as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Skot

Hi Guys,
I've just unpacked the pallet.
It was extremely well packed.
Also on first impression the product is very professionally made.
Each separate order is labelled with your name.

My only problem is with my ladder.
It fits well when mounted on the correct side but there is a problem.
I tried to fasten it but the socket screws for the brackets which fasten it to the bottom of the door are too short.
An extra six to ten mm would work well.

I checked one of my WWII jerry cans in my jerry can holder and it fits very well.
The holddown clamp works well, but I'll buy a small HT steel padlock to make it difficult for petrol thieves.
Also, although there are screw holes in the jerry can holder where it fastens to the ladder rung no nuts and bolts were supplied.
Not a serious problem.

If you want to pay for the duty, GST, etc., by Dirct Deposit, let me know by return and I'll e-mail you the bank details.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Peter

Thanks,

Skot

Hi Scott,
Not in perfect condition but back home after a night in hospital.

Hi Guys,
I've just unpacked the pallet.

Peter

Hi Skot & Peter,

I am more than happy to pay $105, I will transfer it tomorrow.

This has been a complex deal and I for one appreciate everybody's effort to bring it to our back doors.

I am on the Gold Coast and will need to workout how to get my tank up the coast. I will contact Peter soon to discuss.

Cheers

Hi guys. Really sorry about the nuts and bolts for the jerry can holders. I found them on my workbench just after the package had shipped! I'll see if I can send them to you normal post. As for the bolts on the ladders; that length should work. It's what I have on mine. I do agree slightly longer bolts make it a bit easier to fit but, to me, look a bit unsightly once fitted. If this is an issue I'll happily send longer ones.

I'm very interested in what Quantas charged you for? I paid for all the shipping on this side. Your duties also seem very high. What is the breakdown between the clearing agent and the actual duties? With the American order we have just shipped, Ben just collected from the airport himself and paid a very minimal amount for duties. I would really consider giving it a go without the use of a clearing agent next time. I don't see why it should be an issue. We have all the paperwork and documents in place.

Melbourne shipment looks like it is due Tuesday morning.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ian

Ian,

This is Qantas for you... $132.00AUD just for release of the items.

Peter couldn't pick it up without paying it.

Qantas know how to charge just like our government does.

Please keep us updated on the Melbourne shipment.

Cheers,

Skot

It was a similar story when we shipped the wheels from Germany. Any excuse to clip a ticket. Must be hard to be in the import/export game in Aus.

<QANTAS release payment 2014-01-16-2.pdf>

Hi Ian,
I'd prefer you to send the longer bolts for the ladder,
because I just cannot trick the ladder to come down that last 5 mm to get the nut onto the thread on either side.

With regard to the QANTAS charges, I was warned about these by our customs agents.
They appear to be internal Australian charges for handing documents and storage here.
See receipt attached.

We need to note that this was a large consignment, greater than $1000.
Australia does not charge GST, etc., on EBay/Amazon type consignments of less than $1000,
although they are looking at it.

As an aside,
our cargo was X-rayed by customs.
It must have been OK because I am not in custody.

Peter

Hi Scott,

They are not packed apart from the components kits for the tanks.
My concern would be how well they would travel, especially the tanks, by road freight, in an unpacked condition..

Hi Peter, Scott,
I have just received an email from Ian's shipping agents that the Melbourne shipment will land on a domestic flight (via SYD) tomorrow morning at 7.30am. I have tried to ring Qantas to get some idea of the hoops they will want me to go through but the office is closed. The office opens at 8.00am and I will try my luck then. Do you think I will be able to turn up, pay the fee fill out the forms and drive away? Will the shipment be held by Qantas as we have not nominated a local agent? I feel like such a novice! Greg
