Ladders tanks etc.

Greg,

I have no idea whether it will work but its worth a try.

Worst thing that can happen is you get turned away with the paperwork.

Unlike ours your amount should be under $1000.00AU and this should help significantly.

Keep telling them this part of the order is well under the $1K amount and hopefully Ian has listed it as such that includes freight.

Best of luck,

Cheers for all your help....

Skot

Hi Peter, Scott,
I have just received an email from Ian's shipping agents that the Melbourne shipment will land on a domestic flight (via SYD) tomorrow morning at 7.30am. Do you think I will be able to turn up, pay the fee fill out the forms and drive away? Will the shipment be held by Qantas as we have not nominated a local agent? I feel like such a novice! Greg

Hi Scott,

They are not packed apart from the components kits for the tanks.
My concern would be how well they would travel, especially the tanks, by road freight, in an unpacked condition..

Seeing you are in NSW -Â quick detour to Peters place to pick up your tanks maybe?

They sound like they are well packaged ready to go.

Hi Greg,
If you are the nominated receiver and they have your e-mail address,
they will send you an E-mail once it lands.
When you ring them, quote the AWB number and they should be able to answer all your questions.

When you go to their terminal, if it is like Sydney as with all import terminals, you will need a "flack" fluro safety jacket.
They were very professional here in Sydney, vastly different to when the waterside workers controlled sea freight.

Peter

Thanks for your help guys. Rang Qantas, they were very helpful and friendly. I have to ring back after 10.00am to confirm the shipment has arrived at the freight terminal. I asked if I should do anything before fronting up (like prefill the forms) and she said no need! Fees should be around $100 she thinks. So will call later and pick up tomorrow (have the kids today). Hi Peter,

I hope the knee is on the mend. Thanks for collecting the shipment for everyone!

For the parts heading north, ideally for me would be to get it on freight. I'm not sure if this is an option as it would need to be packed suitably and in a location suitable for collection (a business address, not a residential address). This is putting a further burden on you though.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what others from QLD are planning for collection?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Rrichard,
What items will be heading north ?
That is how many tanks and ladders ?

Once I know, I'll give you my thoughts as to what can be done re packaging.

I still have the pallet which came with the shipment and some packaging,
but can not assess the adequacy of what I've got in packaging with what has to be shipped.

Peter

Thanks Peter,

For myself there is one tank (angled bottom one) and the mounting hardware kit.

If it is just that, a box of some sort might be sufficient. That being said road freight companies are experts as damaging even well packed parts as we find at work regularly. (we use Toll)

Can you also send me your bank details for the $105 owed.

Richard

Hi Richard,
I agree with you on the subject of freight companies.
I dealt with them for over thirty years.

Just went down to the shed to check your tank in relation to the pallet.
Even diagonally the pipes on each end are vulnerable.
The tank looks so pristine now, I'd hate to see it damaged,
and I certainly would not like to see it shipped without packaging.

Will have a look at packaging that I have on the shelf and try to invent something.
Your idea of a carton may be possible with scrap timber taped on both ends to protect the pipes,
and strips of timber taped on length wise to protect the surfaces.

If you have an account with Toll it will be as simple as you ringing them to arrange a pickup and putting the freight on your account.

Peter

Thanks for the update Greg.

This is very annoying - we can all see now why we dont import anything - just too expensive.

Then if you on sold these items you would have to pay GST again.

It sucks.

Hi Skot Peter,

I am more than happy to pay $105, I will transfer it tomorrow.

This has been a complex deal and I for one appreciate everybody's effort to bring it to our back doors.

I am on the Gold Coast and will need to workout how to get my tank up the coast. I will contact Peter soon to discuss.

Cheers

Ok. Busy day. 9.30am to 12.30pm at the airport and 12.30 to 5.30 servicing a Subalu Folester! So big learning curve today. The biggest thing I learnt is that although Qantas freight staff are friendly and helpful they actually have no idea how the whole import system works. I had rug Qantas twice before showing up today and each time I asked them "do I need a broker" they said no both times. I turned up at Qantas freight and was sent to customs house at the airport to clear the freight. Customs explained that due to the fact that I did not own the items in the RSA and pack them and send them to myself I needed a broker to clear customs. I found a broker, he loved the kombi and was happy for a chat so I asked why did I need his service. He explained that after 9/11 the process was changed and what he does is checks for an x-ray of the goods on line. He then provides a certificate proving the goods have been through the necessary customs checks. He is licenced to do this by customs. So long story short I have the guys card, if we do this again we send him the details and he will do that certificate and send it to Qantas before we rock up.
So that's all the boring stuff taken care of. The tanks are amazing! Really beautiful build quality. The ladders and jerry can holders are super strong. I fitted my ladder, love it. The jerry holder bolts are missing off our order too. So Steve, Nick let me know when you want your goodies. Ph0409420164.

Thanks for the update Greg.

This is very annoying - we can all see now why we dont import anything - just too expensive.

Then if you on sold these items you would have to pay GST again.

It sucks.

Richard or anyone in Newcastle or further north,

Paul Nevin is heading down to Peters place tomorrow to pick up his tanks and mine.

Paul is in the Newcastle area if anyone else needs them picked up and stored at his place.

Let me know tonight of possible or early tomorrow so that I can advise Paul.

Richard

Brilliant Greg,

I can sleep tonight.

I am always worried when buying from overseas and spending others money in the process.

So glad everything worked out so well.

Ohhh almost forgot the expenses split three ways are $69 if your happy with that guys. (Broker $110, Qantas $49.50 + $46.20)
Scott do we owe you or Ian anything? Also are those bolts coming our way or forget it? Not fussed either way.
Rest easy Scott, you did good. I asked the broker about using a transport company next time and he said it could easily cost four times as much. So a little heartache has saved us a few quid. Greg

Greg,

Its great that the quality is what we expected from Ian.

I am sure Ian can slip the required bolts in the post for the people that ordered them.

This was the list of ladder Owners:

1) Greg Esposito - 1 central mount ladder with 1 jerry can holder = $200
+ $75 + $40 + $20 = $335.00
2) Peter Schweinsberg - 1 Right hand side mount ladder with 2 jerry can holders
= $200 + $75 + $75 + $40 + $20 + $20 = $430.00
3) Roger Bayley - 1 Right hand side mount ladder = $200 + $40 = $240.00
4) Nicolas Fletcher - 2 RHS ladders = $400 + $80 = $480.00
4) Scott Pitcher - 1 Right hand side mount ladder with 1 jerry can
holder = $200 + $75 + $40 + $20 = $40 = $335.00

Postal addresses can be sent directly to Ian using his email address: ian@ianfairley.com

Cheers,

Skot

If it is easier or more convenient for Peter or Paul to pack and have ready for collection, it makes no difference to me if it heads to Brissy from Sydney or Newcastle.

This is very annoying - we can all see now why we dont import anything - just too expensive.

Then if you on sold these items you would have to pay GST again.

It sucks.

Cheers,

Skot

Update from the coal face. Sitting at the brokers now. Fees look like totalling $200. One hour down probably one more before I drive away. Greg

Will be around on Sat for pick up. Greg

Hi Scott,

They are not packed apart from the components kits for the tanks.
My concern would be how well they would travel, especially the tanks, by road freight, in an unpacked condition..

Peter,

Seeing you are in NSW -Â quick detour to Peters place to pick up your tanks maybe?

They sound like they are well packaged ready to go.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Skot Peter,

I am more than happy to pay $105, I will transfer it tomorrow.

This has been a complex deal and I for one appreciate everybody's effort to bring it to our back doors.

I am on the Gold Coast and will need to workout how to get my tank up the coast. I will contact Peter soon to discuss.

Cheers
