New Syncro owner

Hey Roger, on a recent meeting in Melbourne Les, Roger and I were discussing that it would be great to find the youngest syncro in the country. My V.I.N is NG007851, Rogers is NG007852 which places them in the tail end of production. Any chance of posting the last seven of your VIN or any one else that has a higher number than Melbourne Roger. Greg E

Thanks Ken,
I agree I've picked up a really great vehicle, it's going to be a lot of fun!

Thanks for all that info, I'll start going through that after work tonight.

Roger.

Roger,

Lucky you have a very late build and only the second owner and low klms to boot. Enjoy!

Want a Bentley Workshop Manual?
Make sure you buy the latest version, given you have a very late build.
Check these out ...............

Used Bentley manuals come up for sale on TheSamba reasonably regularly ... though none at the moment.

Full kit of replacement coolant hoses ...

Repair the ends of the two long nylon coolant pipes underneath ...

Have fun.

Hi Everyone,
Axel is parked up and waiting for us to have time, in about 2 weeks, for our first trip. In the mean time my girlfriend is making some funky new curtains and I'm on a steep learning curve trying to get my head around all things Syncro.
I have 2 quick questions that someone might be able to help me with, the first is can anyone suggest where to go for a workshop manual? I found one listed on eBay but it is an electronic copy which wouldn't be as useful to me as an actual manual.
The other thing I'm wondering is if there are any components I should be paying particular attention to with the van at the 150,000 km mark?
Thanks,
Roger.

Sure Greg,
It's G004472

I had a few of those be very corroded on the threads recently.
I sure would never put one back in with 'nothing' on the threads ..
and ideally I suppose a new sealing washer would be right.

I'd take it back out ..inspect threads of the plug carefully ..
and if they're ok, put it back in with permatex red high tack gasket sealer on the threads and sealing washer.

stainless doesn't have the slight crushability that copper does.
that's why sealing washers are copper and not stainless usually.

the idea is to blindly trust the vw dealer ?
what do they know about T3 vans ?

Guys, perhaps they did make 20000 plus Transporters but i thought the 2wd were discontinued in Germany prior to 91.

Maybe they were producing T3 bodies for South Africa that year to clear out the T3 stock.

Phillipe do you have any info on when they got the presses etc to make the t3 in South Africa.
VW SA made t3 big window vans till 2003 i thought but not sure if single cabs and dual cabs were made there?

I did see one that was destroyed when a truck rolled with a lot of other special VW vehicles returning from a display somewhere and they stated it was a 2003 i think?

Ken your the info link guru do you know when the last T3 was made??

Regards Pete

Heh Pete,

Some light bedtime reading ....

So this table indicates a T3 VIN finishing in N015000 or higher was built in the last month of T3 manufacture in Germany ... August 1992.

Anyone with the last build month ... N015000 or higher?

Cheers.
Ken

Guys, perhaps they did make 20000 plus Transporters but i thought the 2wd were discontinued in Germany prior to 91.

Maybe they were producing T3 bodies for South Africa that year to clear out the T3 stock.
