New Syncro owner

Greg the G is for Gratz Austrian build as the VW factory in germany tooled up for the T4.

It says in the link Ken sent that these builds were loaded with options < has yours got many add on options they mention below> as the bits from stock were utilised.
So the G builds were assembled at the stayer puch factory and not returned to VW for completion.
I did read somewhere that some Syncros were assembled in Japan from kits supp;ied from Puch ??????????

And that's it. Production ended, Never mind though as they still produced them in south Africa until 2003. It's interesting to note how little the vans were made towards the end. As far as I am aware the later vans ('91,'92)were produced in Graz in Austria in the Steyr-Daimler-puch factory with production at Hanover,Germany coming to an end at the end of the 1990 model year, The Vans built in graz were the fully loaded LLE (limited last editions), Vehicles for the German forces, taxi's and the Syncro models.
This is not gospel but what I have been lead to believe,if you know different then please get intouch.

Missed out the G. To clarify ...

Last build year, 1992 ... N
Factory where built, Graz ... G
Last build month, August ... 015000 or higher.

So for youngest month run of build ... August 1992 German, look for VIN ...  NG015000 or higher.

So this table indicates a T3 VIN finishing in N015000 or higher was built in the last month of T3 manufacture in Germany ... August 1992.

Anyone with the last build month ... N015000 or higher?

Guys, perhaps they did make 20000 plus Transporters but i thought the 2wd were discontinued in Germany prior to 91.

Maybe they were producing T3 bodies for South Africa that year to clear out the T3 stock.

Phillipe do you have any info on when they got the presses etc to make the t3 in South Africa.
VW SA made t3 big window vans till 2003 i thought but not sure if single cabs and dual cabs were made there?

I did see one that was destroyed when a truck rolled with a lot of other special VW vehicles returning from a display somewhere and they stated it was a 2003 i think?

Ken your the info link guru do you know when the last T3 was made??

My VW dealer only goes back to 1993 transporters for spare parts. Do you know a dealer that would stock 1989 Syncro or T3 parts? Also what would the part number be on the drain plug original ?

Leighton. Go down to your local newsagent and get a copy of 'VW MAGAZINE' There is a trade directory inside the back page that lists a heap of vw specialists in the sydney area. Any one of these guys will be able to supply sump plugs or whatever without reference to vin or part numbers. Its only vw australia that will insist on a vin no when ordering garden variety service bits like oil filters, plugs, leads, or sump plugs. If your going to this big vw show in Sydney someone(phil) may have a copy of etka the vw parts catalogue on disc. Cheers Bill
Yeh Pete I know about the Hanover and Gratz factories. Mine is a deluxe but not "loaded". It was the 2wds that tended to be high spec towards the end. So to clarify if you don't have NG in the suffix of your vin your not in the running. The reason this came up in conversation is Rogers (Melb) and my syncro hit regents in WA late '92and were on the road early '93. If new Rogers was first reg in mid '93 I would like to know if the vin is close to ours as it may show that a final batch order was placed by the importers. Greg E

Yes Ken it would appear that way however the build date is 11/91 so it would be close if you droped the 2. maybe a typo as im only refering to the VW warranty card and have not checked the body number.

However the aus compliance plate is marked N g020298 so under aust rules i win.

Any  build date "misinformation" applied to T3 vehicles once arrived in Australia ... isn't necessarily gospel. Take it with a grain of salt.

New Roger here...actually Roger S maybe easier for everyone.
The prefix on mine is NG and on the stamp it says the date of manufacture was April 1992.

As far as I am aware the later vans ('91,'92)were produced in Graz in Austria in the Steyr-Daimler-puch factory with production at Hanover,Germany coming to an end at the end of the 1990 model year, The Vans built in graz were the fully loaded LLE (limited last editions), Vehicles for the German forces, taxi's and the Syncro models.
This is not gospel but what I have been lead to believe,if you know different then please get intouch.

The prefix on mine is NG and on the stamp it says the date of manufacture was April 1992.

So to clarify if you don't have NG in the suffix of your vin your not in the running. The reason this came up in conversation is Rogers (Melb) and my syncro hit regents in WA late '92and were on the road early '93. If new Rogers was first reg in mid '93 I would like to know if the vin is close to ours as it may show that a final batch order was placed by the importers. Greg E

Greg the G is for Gratz Austrian build as the VW factory in germany tooled up for the T4.

It says in the link Ken sent that these builds were loaded with options < has yours got many add on options they mention below> as the bits from stock were utilised.
So the G builds were assembled at the stayer puch factory and not returned to VW for completion.
I did read somewhere that some Syncros were assembled in Japan from kits supp;ied from Puch ??????????

Heh Pete,
Better double-check your VIN number.
See pic showing location of VIN number on cross member of chassis.

The date stamped on the pop rivetted "BUILT DATE" tag on the drivers side 'A" pillar is a load of old cobblers. That was put on after arrival in Australia, probably/maybe more like a date soon after it arrived here.
So the real built date in Germany is earlier than that tag shows.

That VIN still seems a mystery.

Yes Ken it would appear that way however the build date is 11/91 so it would be close if you droped the 2. maybe a typo as im only refering to the VW warranty card and have not checked the body number.

However the aus compliance plate is marked N g020298 so under aust rules i win.

So this table indicates a T3 VIN finishing in N015000 or higher was built in the last month of T3 manufacture in Germany ... August 1992.

Anyone with the last build month ... N015000 or higher?

Guys, perhaps they did make 20000 plus Transporters but i thought the 2wd were discontinued in Germany prior to 91.

Maybe they were producing T3 bodies for South Africa that year to clear out the T3 stock.

Phillipe do you have any info on when they got the presses etc to make the t3 in South Africa.
VW SA made t3 big window vans till 2003 i thought but not sure if single cabs and dual cabs were made there?

I did see one that was destroyed when a truck rolled with a lot of other special VW vehicles returning from a display somewhere and they stated it was a 2003 i think?
