Well done, Andy, that’s a very good rig indeed.  I imagine that it came with the original Trakka manuals; if it didn’t, I have copies.

If it's any help, I have a couple of solar panels I bought in 1980.
Not nearly as good as current technology, but by the time Trakka took them up for Syncros, they were reasonably well advanced and available.

Mark,

It has proved to be impossible to learn how many Syncros came to Australia , let alone the breakdown of specific models.  We haven’t even been able to find how many Telecom bought!

It is not generally known (now) that the Trakka camping conversion was a Volkswagen Australia supported option and thus could be ordered off the showroom floor.  Trakka carried the warranty for all of their own gear but it was nonetheless a showroom floor option.  Mine is one of them.  I spoke to Trakka some years ago regarding their production but learned that they had dumped most of their records when they moved the factory from Chatswood to Asquith, so that avenue is closed.

Hi Les,

Would VW be able to assist? Presumably they would hold numbers sent to Australia and perhaps those destined for Trakka?

Cheers,

Jon.

Hi Andy,

Does your Trakka have the original rear tent? Mine is missing. Wouldn't mind a look at one with the aim of making up a replacement.

Cheers

Jon

VIN NUMBERS

Over the years, various avenues have been tried but without success.  I have an idea that I am going to follow up through one of our German members that might be a lot more productive.

In the meanwhile, we could help ourselves by asking every member to send in his VIN number – it has to be on every registration certificate and it is on the Syncro in several places.  This would enable us to start building a register and keep track of the few left in Australia and New Zealand .

Hi Les
'89 Caravelle Syncro, WV2ZZZ25ZKG066935.

Great to see the T3 Trakka on the home page.
Gerald Cornish
Ours is :
8/89 build
VIN: WV 2ZZZ 25 ZKG 100 356
2 Seat Window Van.

Bought fitted out with 8 Seat CL Caravelle Seats.
There was a Trakka sticker on a side window with some sort of certification number, which we have always thought related to the eight seat configuration.
Currently wearing 7 seat GL Seats in rear.

For off road camping, we remove the rear seats and install box work
which gives a sleeping platform and storage.

That, with a Trakka rear door tent,
a little short when fitted to the Syncro because we bought it for the 1982 T3, and an OZ Tent at the side door give us three rooms and a covered passage.
