Sorry brain fade from a big night playing two up. Looking for a rear mounted tyre carrier and one 14” rim???

Col,
There is a variety of rear carriers, some of which are better than others. To see how it should be done, have a look at the Gary Lee ( Canada ) carriers:

Col,
You can get your rear rack from www.vwrack.com which is an "excellent piece of kit" in my view and I have had no problems with mine. Phill has the original version of this.
See attached photo of mine.
Cheers,
Scott
Thanks Scott and Les for the info on spare tire carriers. Anyone out there with some 14” rims for sale ?

Col. I have been a Syncro owner for 4 days, so very new kid on the block as they say. Mine has 14 inch rims and I am thinking of getting 15 inch alloys. If so I would be selling the 14 inch rims.
Then I would be looking for advice from the wise heads out there about the best rims and tyres to buy. I won’t be doing any really adventurous off roading like I have seen on the web site but some moderate off roading could be on the agenda.
Regards, Peter
Hi Col ,
I still have a genuine T3 Syncro 14” rim in my shed, complete with the original Michelin tyre, unworn, but old of course. Trouble is I’m in Melbourne , but give me a ring if you’re interested.

Dear Col,
You should also look at our site photos under the heading "T3 rear wheel carriers" for photos and some diagrams of genuine VW and worthwhile aftermarket carriers.
I could give you 1 14" syncro rim in good condition or sell you a set of 6 for $100 - 5 of which have marginally roadworthy Michelin X tyres on them. I'm/they are in Melbourne
Cheers

Hi there folks,
recently I had a not so friendly meth head break in to my Syncro. I was insured and had a payout for contents but have had trouble pricing or finding parts for insurance payment for damages.
Items affected were sliding window on the sliding door, lower dash and front door handle.
He tried to force the handle damaging the lock cover, then moved on to the sliding window. This was chipped and able to be forced open. Then he ripped the lower dash while trying to open my little change tin.
This was where he came unstuck. Unable to open the tin easliy he took his glove off and left it in the van.
Subsequently the police identified him from DNA in the glove.
So if anyone knows where I can get pricing on these it would be helpful.
If that window wasn't able to be forced he would have smashed it anyway.
Don't leave anything in your van folks.
Mark

Hi Richard,
I have one of those storage trays on my the dashboard of my cosseted GL Syncro. When I first saw it, I thought that is was a bit an after market, a tacked on look, but very useful and far better than the ashtray.
Have never tried the drink holders, they look a little shallow, but as a place for the log book, pen and sun glasses, great.

Thanks for the replies guy's.
That's what I was thinking Scott, I currently have a very old radio and nothing else in/on the dash, so it's stock and unmodified. If I want to put in GPS and maybe a reverse camera one day I see the tray as a convenient place to mount to and keep my dash unmodified. The image was from JK which seem to have a good price for them. They do need to be cut back to go over the padded dash though.
I will also put an original style pocket on the passenger door and have found a couple of nice neat pockets I'm hoping will fit to the side of the seat base without hindering the walk through. I also fitted seat covers that have a pocket behind the front seats. That will give me a lot of storage options up the front that I don't have now.
Yea, should have said that, the head light protectors, spanner, shocks and Chinese thermostat came from Bus Depot in the USA. Still seems you need to shop around to get decent parts, so I end up with multiples of each part so I can pick the one I think will work best!!.
I've been helping a local (Brisbane) guy get his Syncro on the road, he's not on the internet so have been helping him source parts. Most of the parts he's chasing are not stocked locally, so he thought they were not available anymore. I never liked any of the head light protectors I've seen in the past, but these are very neat and look good once on ($US60 a pair).
He bought the Syncro without a motor so he's fitted a Subaru, just got it on the road a couple of weeks ago and all going well so far. He's planning to take it to Valla.

Hi Richard,
Great online "show & tell". We all should do more here! Even more popular in a group sharing freecamp setting!
Spanner: Attached Pic 01 shows the two tools to R&R the pump pulley hex head bolts, discussed here years ago.
I
think the specialised tool you found best suits round headed allen key style bolts?
Door pockets: Pic 02 shows my new door pockets. Original ones lasted since circa 1992. Multi purpose, these suit me best for everyday use and things inside don't rattle. I'd rather not waste them for storage of maps.
Door pocket: Pic 3 shows my maps do fit in the door pocket, but I'd rather have currently used map located in the isle between the seats, for easy/quick reference.
Map pocket: Pic 4 shows map storage is best for me on the back of the cooking cupboard. Also see towel rail. Also see hook for hanging plastic garbage bag in kitchen!
There are other mods, a few here:
STOP lights: Pic 05.
Instrument cluster: Pic 06.
Triple jet screen washers: Pic 07.
Mini skirt and engine skid plate: Pic 08. Skirt best for cold climates. Plate for serious offroading.
Enjoy.
