Yes I looked at those yesterday. As their smallest size is 1.5" diameter, then many of our smaller hoses aren't covered. Also it might require a masochist to conger up the larger ones.
I do like the look of the brush head though, for washing the van ... Part # RT204 under the "Oils, Greases & Accessories" menu.
Anyone know of an even better vehicle cleaning brush that fits on a long handle? No internal waterjet in brush required.

The more I study this, I'm leaning toward buying only the hoses I think are most at risk ... mostly those on the feed (hot) line when the thermostat is open. So I'm thinking the hoses I'm interested in are from the thermostat region to the radiator plus a few others. Maybe I can get out of it for around $200 plus. The rest of the hoses look pretty ok to me so might take a punt with those not failing in a hurry. Unless someone has other thoughts on this to sway me. Graham, maybe I'll check out this local supplier of yours too for a quote.
You ask what fluid to desecrate your newly built front diff with? ermmm .... well let's see now, I suppose your better half has a fair range of polyunsaturated/virgin/modified/stabilised oils in the kitchen you could blend into something of a pot pouri. Should do the trick, smell nice and heh ... readily available! No worries m8y. Worst comes to the worst you could maybe get by with Castrol Syntrax 75W/90 Manual transaxle fluid, we could then compare notes haha.
BenT, a couple of things about hose listings. My ETKA v6.31 lists the coolant rubber hose at position no. 2 as Part no. 251 121 058B. Yet US websites like Vanagain, Van Cafe and Bus Boys list it as 025 121 058B. What's going on? Typo?
Vanagain and Van Cafe list 025 121 073H as the "J" shaped hose linking thermostat housing with metal pump pipe. Bus Boys doesn't list it at all, neither does my ETKA on illustration 16-17 nor accompanying parts list. Bit weird there, can't see how it would be listed anywhere else as it's coolant system related only. How did ETKA v6.31 miss it? Any thoughts?
I'm now up to a count of 18 hoses (ignoring straight hoses cut to various lengths and heater circuit). I think that is final, someone prove me wrong ok would be useful.
Any other thoughts on alternate coolant hose supply sources, please let us know. TIA.
Cheers.

I started collecting all the coolant hoses about eighteen months ago to go with the engine and transmission rebuild [a work in progress]. I got most of them from Tooley Imports in Sydney, and the rest from Van Cafe, who have excellent photographs of the components on their website. I could have saved a few dollars buy buying the straight lengths of hose locally.
The rationale is that most wasserboxer engine catastrophes [that I have seen] are caused by coolant system failures, so there was no point fitting an expensive new engine without overhauling the cooling system.
The first thing I ever replace on a T3 is the pressure cap on the coolant reservoir - it's cheap insurance.
A part that is often overlooked is the 'oil cooler' which is connected to the water pump, and often corrodes. All of the metal pipes and fittings should be checked for corrosion [especially if the correct coolant has not been used] - Van cafe even sells some of them with ceramic coating.
Radiators should be cleaned and pressure-tested. I wouldn't even think about doing a big trip with a twenty-year-old radiator.
You are correct in saying that the hoses that fail the most are those closest to the engine.
I've include a few of the prices below; the hoses alone set me back over $500. Next time I probably wouldn't bother about the hoses that attach to the radiator, as they generally seem to last for ever. The Australian prices include GST, and the U.S. prices reflect what I paid in $AU at the time, but don't include freight - which would be difficult to compute because I bought a lot of other stuff as well. I didn't include the price of a water pump.

I wonder how come it hadn't failed and how come AutoBahn Strecker in Sydney never changed it during a routine service? After all, service receipts I have show they added "green" coolant concentrate at every service so they had to take the black cap off! Just how good are they??!!

Phill,
This raises a question about ETKA versions. I have at least two differing versions but no indication of version number. I found this when we were talking about Syncro wheel offsets – which I will come back to later.

From vague memory the thermostat housing is set up differently on the 2WD compared to the syncro ... different orientation or something. So I'm guessing then the 025 121 058B 2WD hose is much the same, maybe just a different length? I checked my present hose, it is 251 121 058B.
The issue I raised about the absence of a part listing where you expect it would be shown but isn't, is not uncommon with ETKA. So at first blush, what looks like 16-17 illustration being the complete coolant rubber hoses positions and accompanying list ... is not. Clearly ETKA isn't for the faint hearted but quite a valuable tool all the same. Just need to use it more to attune to its group associations better.
All the same, looking at illustration 16-17, 025 121 073 hose is in fact shown in place but partly hidden, not identified and so not listed there.
