Pop top conversions/ SYD (who still does)

Hello.
I'm trying to help a friend-they want to know who can still do pop top conversions for T3?
About 4-5 years ago I did research and I found a group in Sydney who still had a T3 mould and were willing to do a drive in drive out roof only conversion for aprx 6K. I think they now are doing later Vw pop top conversions.

Does anyone know who that might be???

Hamish,

I had mine done by Discoverer Campers in Sydney about 4 years ago just before they went bankrupt and Chris took over the business and was going to fix the stuff up they made when he went belly up 8 months later.

Anyway, I tracked down the roof manufacturer who at the time was "Nose Cone" in Sydney and had them re-make the elevating roof section.

They did this, stuffed it up again, took it back at their cost, fixed it and flow coated it again and finally I had my very trusted Macron Campers @ Ourimbah install it and a new sleeve that they organised.

Turned out great in the end but a lot of pain in the mean time.

Anyway Nose Cone are still in business as far as I know and they are @:

12 Donald St
Old Guildford NSW 2161

Phone: (02) 9721 6333
Outside Sydney Metro: 1800 643322

or   sales@nosecone.com.au

They were the only ones I know of that still have the mould for the Discoverer or "Camperise" style roof system.

Give them a try. Plus Macron Campers can fit it for them - I definitely trust their work.

Cheers,

Skot

Unfortunately Nose Cone don't have the mould anymore.

They told me it was destroyed in an accident with a fork lift.

Then I converted it my self and I painted it.
I thought Just Kampers had the Westfalia lookalike pop-tops available in Australia for a few grand or so.

Hamish,

Was your donor vehicle a red T3 that came from Erina on the Central Coast which came from Paul Mullers collection of unwanted vehicles?

Not many of them around Oz and that is the only donor Westfalia I have seen.

Cheers,

Skot

Would a Westfalia pop-top be legal here?

They were not designed for our vans.

Sam has one installed in his syncro, I remember seeing it a few years ago.

From memory he removed the Westfalia pop-top from a T3 van that must have been shipped to Oz to use then left here and he bought it as a donor.

So I guess the pop-top was approved, never thought to ask the question at the time.

Would a Westfalia pop-top be legal here?

They were not designed for our vans.

I had a look on their website but just saw the replacement canvas, not the roof. Sent them an email asking about the pop tops but no reply yet.

I don't think you are getting the point Ken.

Legal and approved are two different things.
