Great Photos Mark.

Did you buy the surfboard over in Qld or did you fly it over then drive back with it on your roof?

Cant wait for the movie - I see there was some beach off-roading.

Cheers,

Skot

Posted a few pics here of the trip over..
Most of my footage is video which should one day be edited into a little road trip movie..

Here's a few pics from the recent trip to Karijini via all the back roads from Perth.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Syncro_T3_Australia/photos/album/1072104908/pic/list

Awesome trip, especially after recent rains. Had to make one detour due to a flooded Ashburton river - nearly got swept away trying to walk across !
Syncro did well, but a few tips for the unwary.. Never leave on a major trip with a hangover. Always check mechanical work even if you think you have good help.
Battery terminal protector left off by auto electrician finally shorted after really bad roads - result was a dead car which needed tow starting before the immobiliser reset itself.
Return hose clamp left off coolant pressure tank, came off, lost my water.Always carry distilled water and G12.
Ball joint not replaced when suspension was done ( love those GW springs and OME shocks ) Resulting in a lot of noise and loss of alignment.
Ride on Syncronuts - best bus on the road, and we saw plenty of alternatives that just don't cut it 21 years later !

Mark
Suspicious that the person with the hangover problem was the person who did all that sloppy work.
That could have burnt your fine rig to the ground..
missing positive battery post cover, battery not firmly clamped down.
and other bad things.

This is a Syncro killer.

Because I have extra terminals on the positive post of the battery, I can’t use the standard post cover.  To make it safe, I glue a rubber sheet (about 2mm thick) to the underside of the battery cover – and not just over the positive post but the entire underside of the cover.

It is equally vital to use the battery locking plate so that the battery cannot move.  If anyone hasn’t got one installed, got one now!  A minor traffic accident could result in total loss of a valuable Syncro if the positive terminal shorts out.

Scott,

I have been wondering where you were!

Don’t be too hard on him and I doubt that he was the culprit.  He is also doing the responsible thing of alerting members to this potentially huge – and irreversible – problem.

Yeah I was sloppy in getting major work done and not then checking thoroughly before departure.
All too rushed for this trip but the Syncro is a long term project so eventually it get's sorted .
Party was worth the hangover though.

Looks like an awesome trip.

Any syncro off road video links?

Cheers,

Hi mark . I just checked my TomTom gps and from my home on the east coast to karijini national park is 5060km. This is a big country we live in and when you casually say "ROAD TRIP" I suspect you probably covered many thousands of km. Together with aussie corrugations this will test any 25yo vehicle and a lot of modern high dollar rigs fail. Those photos look picture postcard. Fantastic. Bill
Not much off road vid sorry as I'm the cameraman and driver..
About 4000km's covered with best economy 12.5km/100 and worst about 14km/100. Hard to get 95 octane out there but as I read the Syncro manual they're rated to run on 91 ? What's the verdict on that one ?
Good tip on the metho.

91 octane is near impossible to buy in Australia. Most of the test results show 89, 88 etc. at the bowser.
