I rest my case on reality dealing with local VW parts department.
If it was NOT the case, I would use them.

Ken,

The collective willingness of our members to search the globe (K. Garratt springs to mind) beats a nineteen year old kid on the spares counter every time.  Toss in some ETKA expertise (P. Lander) and lots of hands-on experience (R. Bayley) and this group is a long way ahead of the game.

Phill,

Been through this approach here before ad nauseum. It's more often than not the last port of call for a desperado.

,_._,___

Joking right ?

there's a waterboxer oil filter on this site listed at 12 Euro's.
that is nearly 16 dollars US.
I get about 4 of those shipped to me here in oregon that amount.

Van Cafe ..those are 'the good guys.'
I'd use them whenever needed.

Order from where in Australia?

I think that this thread is just causing confusion. I don't think that there is a 2wd version.

yep ... quality filters ... http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van_1223689737929/smartlist_1179/oil_filter.html

we can't get anywhere near that price, even better the 4 pack.

should always buy a 4 pack with each order of parts.

 Hello Ken,

Thanks and I am lookng forward to VW Nationals. Just to set the record straight I do not currently have a syncro at the present time. I have a T3 camper that thinks it is a syncro.

Yeah...
this is the 'normal price' for that filter in North America ..
or the US at least.
suprised they cost you so much ..

the Porsche 914 list is talking about cost of car registration.
Some people in various US states have them registered as historical vehicles and the fee is a one time feei of $ 35 US...'forever.'
that's the low.
the highest was Malaysia ..
something like $ 395 US per year.
if over 4,000 cc's engine size ....something like $ 2K US per year, just for registration.

To all those who for an oil seal, I have ordered a dozen and they are on the way.

  12 oil seals [020 141 733D] ordered from Van Café  on 9/10/2012 @ $US13.85 ea.

Total cost: $US187.85 us [incl. $21.65 shipping]. [Billing amount: $AU190.69].

  USPS priority, 4-15 days delivery.

The main saving is in the postage, which pans out to $1.80 per seal.

The cost works out at $15.90 per seal. [$190.69 divided by 12].

If they arrive in time I will deliver them to those who attend the Nationals.

Otherwise I will post them [on receipt of payment and mailing address].

  Postage and packaging: [stamps $1.20, packaging $1.35] = $2.55.

Will let you know when they arrive.

                                                       Cheers,
                                                                   Roger [Beetle] Bayley.

Maybe Roger can do all our vans @ the Nationals while he is there?

If we can all park together undercover - there is a great opportunity for Roger to show his seal replacement skills.

See you there Hart and Roger and Ben and Ken and Phill...have I left anyone out?

Cheers,

Skot

Excellent.

See you there. Hopefully my insurance will be sorted by then.

Getting closer with the insurance - but they didn't like my cracked windscreen - time for a new one. Any hints for a place to go for a replacement?

Thanks,

Skot

G'day Skot,
I'll wait until they arrive before worrying about payment, as it will vary according to whether postage is required.

  Are you attending the Nationals?

                                                                         Cheers, Roger.

No problems Hart ... just move the decimal point a couple of spaces to the right.

Roger,

I am coming to the Nationals whether my syncro is insured or not - it just may not be in the syncro.

I can give the cash at the Nationals if you prefer?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Skot
