i'm new to this forum, a frenchman living in bunbury western australia.
I swaped a few years ago the shocks on my syncro, for those OME units, and i really had a doubt these shocks were ever manufactured in australia, or even were OME.
My landcruiser had some OME, you could read on them: made in australia, and OLD MAN EMU.
Not on the ones sold for the vw. The paint job was lousy, the sticker wasn't even straight, so everyone in france wondered were they came from. no answer.
Rumors are they might simply be gabriel or whatever rebadged units.
maybe this was special to the europeen market?
and they even didn't offer more travel then the original.
I wouldn't pay the price for them now, but stick to the good old boge that really did a good job.

But are they REALLY only available in Oz at hundreds of $'s more than the same shocks in the US? I rang ARB who quoted me $770 for the set of 4, while GoWesty do them for $549 (USD). I asked how its possible for GoWesty to import them, ship them, pay dity and make a mark up and do it all for so much less then the company here that makes them... ARB didnt have an answer. Hmm. Anyone found them for less this side of the Pacific?

I have a full set of unused/uninstalled OME shocks for the syncro still on my shelf. Bought them locally from an ARB 4WD retail outlet.
I can't comment on what you bought. Did they happen to fall off the back of a truck in the dead of night?
All I know from looking at what I bought is the rears are indent stamped on the barrel ... MADE IN AUSTRALIA. They each have an OME sticker saying, amongst other things, "Built Tough In Australia".
The front shocks are indent stamped on the barrel ... MADE IN BELGIUM. The OME sticker says, amongst other things, "Built Tough For Australia". So a difference between rear and fronts.
So being French, you may have an opinion what quality of products are manufactured in Belgium ... and for that matter, Australia.
Cheers and welcome aboard.

i don't know where those OME were coming from, but as demand was growing in france they became available for a decent price in 4wd shops.
the "build for australia" now rings a bell!
so if you had a OME and a boge or bilstein in hand, you could only shake your head at looking at those yellow units. I guess someone in europe grabbed the opportunity to make some money.
anyway they really didn't make a difference over the original ones, i even had to machine some "lenghtener" that bolted on top of them to allow the extra travel needed.
this was the french experience.

Where can you get the Boge shocks in Oz, and are they cheaper than Old Man Emu? Oh, and my roadworthy says that the caster control arm bushes need replacing, yet I cant find a reference to them in my VW pdf of the transporter... does it have another name? Hi Ben. Brilliant, sounds like all is good to go then. When you mention shared shipping, is that because you have other T3 parts for sale? If so it would be great to know what, as my van seems to need a few things sorting before she's all good to go. Other than paypal, is there another payment method that doesn't take 2.9%? The M is a 'shock' for me for sure. Do you know how it differs from the C or N shocks?
Since Hartmut's Tristar was likely a naturalized Aussie, which Boge is he happy with?
