Sydney Nationals 2010

Just a couple of photos for the group to enjoy of our record 15 syncros @ a single place.

A great day had by all participants even if it was a tad freezing.

Hope you all enjoy.

Cheers,

Scott

Scott,
Geez your breeding a bunch of wimps.

You should be throwing them in the drink next to The Haven boatramp at around 6am every morning when the fishoes are back cleaning their tiddlers and the stingrays are cruising round for the spoils haha. Heh dad, now that'd toughen em real quick and a nature lesson to boot.

Ken,

We thought ahead and have a cabin booked. Too cold in July/ August to camp for my brood.

Wouldn't miss that for all the tea in China!

Thanks Brian,

They seem excellent for a T4/ T5, but the T3 sills are fairly narrow and rounded making this system impractical.

I spoke to Nik "Vannin" on the kombi club about this and his system was also well suited to the T4.

Brett's system sounds very suitable to my van and he has made them previously just not for about 15 years.

There is no hurry the next trip camping isn't until Old Bar in October.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott,

You might want to look at this http://www.vwwaterc ooled.org. au/f26/front- bunk-sling- kombi-beach- t5-33134. html . Made for a T4/5, but could probably be adapted for a T3.

I agree Michael.

You really need to want the pop top to do it but it provides many benefits for the dollars required. You also need to plan to keep the vehicle for some time to benefit from the work.

Very nice to be able to easily stand in the vehicle to get changed and my daughter absolutely loves the roof bed. Now we have rid ourselves of those nasty boxy fluoro lights and have a very slim line LED strip light - there will be no head banging.

I spoke to Brett about a cab bunk that secures over the head rests and clips onto the grab handles for Child # 2.

When finances permit I will be getting one of those.

Anyway it is comforting to know you at least have this as an option and I would suggest you wont really get any other new pop top installed for any less. It also solved my damaged headliner and scratched / dented roof problems - plus gave Hartmut an O/H air con installation project.

Cheers,

Scott

Ben,

It was just attached to the email. I don't know how to put it in the website. Tried that before a few times and failed dismally.

Just try looking at the attachment section of the email.

By the way - what did you think of that Andrew blokes de-coupler and how much was he asking for it?

Actually I think Graham was quizzing him a bit more closely about it.

Cheers,

Scott

Scott/Ben,

His price at the old exchange rate, I think, was 1600 plus 400 core dep. The new lot he said ‘could ‘ be more, because of our currency drop. If buying from him I would take my core out before delivery and give it to him when receiving the unit, thus avoiding the core deposit. The other alternative would be to get a quote from Florian, Bernd Jaeger or Syncro Services. Just my bit of input. Hart

Ben,

The pics are attached to the email and are coming through normally.  If you aren’t getting the attached pics, it is down to the settings of your email server, not the Syncro_T3_Australia settings.

What a great turn out, and some interesting conversation.
Scott were abouts are the photos. I cant find them.

Scott are you able to email the photos to me?
I had a real good look at the Volksland decoupler. It was the same as mine. The gears and bearings look the same.It had the same stainless actuator bracket as well as the same switch and actuator. The kit contained all the necessary parts except for a nose cone gasket. It had better install instructions than what I got(they were in English),but the diagrams and photos were the same.
Mine worked out cheaper though and I paid duty tax too. They are German made from Syncro Services.
If I was going to get another I would still be in contact with Florian
@ decouplers@gmail.com first.

Ben,

It was just attached to the email. I don't know how to put it in the website. Tried that before a few times and failed dismally.

Just try looking at the attachment section of the email.

Thanks.

Here is a few more.

Wasn't much time for photos - more time yapping and checking out everyone else's syncros plus the fantastic other vehicles around.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi,

my decoupler kits are back in stock - and because some of you where wondering what it costs with the wild fluctuation on the currency market, including shipping it will be about AUD 1200, plus about AUD 300 for the core which you get refunded. If requested, I can split the package up into two lower value packages so it passes customs better.
It is important though to return the cores as fast as possible. Of three cores I sent out to Australia, one has never been seen again.... the deposit covers my costs but it is not easy to acquire cores.
You can either pay paypal in US dollars or bank transfer in Euros.
The nosecone gasket is part of my kits too btw, it was an upgrade we got from the supplier around new years.
I can provide english install instructions, but I am also available over the phone, just call 0011-1-510-381-1567 but call in the morning australia time due to the time change.
thanks
FLorian
Hi Florian, How much would it cost to get all the parts as a kit without the nose cone. By that I mean we machine our own nose cone and you supply ALL the parts for assembly. The other question is can you supply only the internal parts, if so how much. Greg E

 Hi Greg

Please understand that I'm not mechanically well imbued, but I'm seriously looking at getting a decoupler for my van,(it has a rather aggressive VC) once I've finished resolving my overheating problems. When you talk to Florian about "we machine" would you be prepared to install a decoupler at your convenience to my bus, and would you  be prepared to place a joint or group order to purchase the said decoupler from Florian. Do you have a workshop garage or engineering business to do the said work? Please be free to say yes or no. No offence will be taken.
Thanks

Michael

Greg and Micheal, although I dont believe that the actual machining of the nose cone is a real complex job.Finding a machine shop that is prepard to do the work or one that knows what you are talking about might be the problem.I believe it would work out dearer and more of a headache to get the machining done here. Not to mention your bus will be of the road for some time.
Just pay the core deposit, send your old one back. You will have a decoupler that works and you will be happy! Its that easy. You wont regreat it.

I would agree with Ben.

There is no way I would try to machine this up - whilst it might sound easy it would also be easy to get slightly wrong and that could have dire consequences.

When finances are approved for me to do this I will be asking Florian to do give me the lot and I will send back my old core.

Ben, were you the "only one" that Florian said actually returned the core so far?

Others are probably hanging onto it incase something goes wrong and they need to change it back?

Check the picture of Hart's Tristar here at this forum

The pic was posted as "For you Scott" - assume this is _you_ Scott?

and note the comment! Looks like you found some fans there...

Scott, cant speak for others, but yes I have sent my core back.
I am not Florian, but I couldnt see him sending just the internals.Plus there is the pressing in of the main roller bearing.
I cant imagine what problems you would have with one, they are pretty straight forward.I am sure though,if by some chance there was a problem Flo would be of great assistance.Drop him a email.
Micheal, dont worry about a group buy, just get one. There would have to be 10 or so purchases to make any significant savings.Email him.Get one earmarked for Aus.You can do it.
If you live in Sydney, buy one, then contact me,if you are worried about the install.

I have sent an email to Florian to make arrangements to get one ASAP. Hart has convinced me that this should be the first major work on the Syncro before anything else. Also after chatting to all the owners at the Nationals, there is no doubt this is a priority.

Cheers, Peter

Peter,

The first major work should be to get rid of that bull bar. Then the de-coupler, then you will need some new rear gas struts for your tail gate.

I replaced my gas struts a year ago and it makes such a difference not having the tailgate drop on your head.

Excellent vehicle by the way and I was amused how Suncamper drain the parcel try on the front roof with a small conduit either side.

Cheers,

Skot.

i might as well run this up the flag pole to see what happens, i want to try to orginise some social drives with the group through the year so the first thing is to try to find some form of interest[ this may be harder than trying to herd cats]
1. who is commited to the family during school holidays.
2.  "   prefers 1 day trips and how close to sydney.
3.  '      "       2 day trips and distance.
4. What amenities wiil the family like to camp out and do it again.
5. Are national parks the go or scenic drives and picnics/bbq.

I am open for any ideas and suggestions boys and girls so lets see if we can make some thing happen.
