TX Valve

Has anyone had to replace a TX aircon valve in a Trakka fitted with Premier aircon ?
Where is it and what's the best replacement option ? Hope I don't have to take the
dash out.. All advice appreciated..

Mark
Hi Mark,
Premier aircon? Trakka vans usually had locally fitted Prestige brand AC systems. Is that what you have installed? Unless instead you have a VW Caravelle factory fitted AC? If it's a local Prestige AC system, then I still have all my pics and records about it, might be of some help. Also Yurik and Greg have been down this road.
Cheers.
Ken

I think it is mounted next to the radiator condenser unit. Bob

Historically the TXV in all auto AC's are at the evaporator (inside coil). There is the odd time they are outside the evap

It will either be behind the LH headlight or under the dash.

Trakka vans with Prestige AC usually have the TX valve behind LH headlight, see attached location pic.
Cheers.

HI Ken,

you're right, Prestige aftermarket aircon. Any pics , info would be handy.
Where to get the part and how to get it out ..
Restoring an old Syncro is a process of one step forward, two backwards.

Perseverance comes to mind.

Mark
Hi Mark,
I can send you relevant pics/files, they first need to be compressed (zipped) into a single attachment for emailing.
What do you use/have on your PC ... winzip or winrar compression program?

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Ken,

I've found the valve, got a replacement. Now I just have to get the dash off as it's tucked in behind the evaporator with no access. Bugger is the word that comes to mind. Might have to move to Tassie instead.

Mark
hey mark have been told a long time ago that the tx valve failure usually caused by ice forming in it.
And the dryer should be replaced if valve problems arise ?
Could only be a small amount of moisture contaminating the system then blocking the valve ?
From memory the drier is the canister with the window on top the shows the gas flow.?
Cheers pete

Hi Mark
Moving to Tassi is a real practical solution in the meantime you have got a very 'prestigious ' job to perform.
Yes Pete's memory is still ok , you should replace the filter/dryer also. Plus do yourself a favour and use ever so little sealant on the binding surfaces. The stuff you use when sticking the two crank case halves together is real good.....or else use Curil, Permatex or any other good one
Good luck.   Hart

Thanks Pete, Hart. I'll replace the dryer - that's behind the left light so easy to access.
Pic attached of the Syncaru with new 235/75/15 tyres.
Have to say if they'd built them like this in the first place it would have been well ahead of it's time.
Pretty much perfect gearing / engine combo.

Just have to use it now !

Mark
Looks great Mark.

Cheers,

Hi, I have those same wheels on my trakka syncro and was told the offset is quite wrong... With the wheels too far out putting extra stress on the bearings. I was about to shell out Nd replace them with something of the correct ET, but wondered if you have a 'fix' for the offset on them?
Cheers
Nick

That's true Nick. Wider offset for sure. However if they've done 23 years I don't think it's a deal breaker.
Gives better stability in cross winds with a wider track.
I'm not sure of original spec ET - does anyone know ?
Set of Merc rims may be the cheapest answer.

I measured mine once and I think they were something like et10 or 15

Yep, just had a look at the wheel too and they have p15 on them which will be for positive 15.  Is it ok to run them? I love the look and they seem tough enough go, I just wondered whether it was likely to be screwing the bearings.
