TYRES - What R U Running?

Sounds good. The sleeve/adaptor sounds simple enough.
If you get stuck, a guy at work has a 3D printer at home, it would not take much to do a drawing up for him to print from.

Modified the carrier so it now takes the wheel
I looked at modding the caps for the rear wheels but it’s hard, so I’m going to make a drawing of the existing cap and what’s required and take you up on your offer for the mate with the 3D printer. Much better solution really!

Thanks Rich,
G

Very cool. Send a couple of pictures of the existing cap and a few dimensions where it sits in the wheel and needs to miss the axle nut and I will model it up.

Thanks Rich, I’ll get onto that and send on.

Hi Rich,
here are some pics of the original caps with some dimensions. I’ll take pics of the wheel hole when I get a chance, with the rear nut it’s actually quite tight for space!

I’m pretty sure the wheel hole is 60mm in diameter, and the hub cap tabs protrude a bit into a recess just inside, with the spring keeping it all tight.
I need to measure again but I think the inside of the cap will have to be 25-30mm higher to clear the rear nut axle, I will confirm.

Sorry for the delay - here are pics of the rear hub in situ. The axle/nut inc pin protrudes 25mm above the wheel edge.

Here we go again, this subject always comes around full circle.

I’ve been printing these for a few years now.

The truth is, building caps for Audi rims is a pig of a job. There is simply not enough room to fit the original spring clip between the axle and rim.
You can leave the spring off and they are very tight to fit in there, but the problem arises if you forget to take the cap off before changing a wheel as you can break the clips off.

Mercedes rims are a much better bet for good fitment to our vans

No spacers needed Scott!

Thanks for those pics and link Nils. I’d be interested to see the back of them to work out how they fit to the rim. Anyone has any they could post a pic of?

Also I’m not super sold on the looks, I have an idea it should be simple enough to 3D print something more akin to the originals, but raised about 25mm to clear the axle and nut. All it needs is the way to make it fit right without an inner spring clip as it’s so tight.

That is amazing Gaetan,

ET41 and 215 16s - I’m amazed.

I am running 235 75 15s with ET25 and my spare wheel is ET35 which is enough to make my tyres run on the rear control arm. I need ET25 to get them to fit. That 10mm (ie 10mm either side of the tyre to make the 20mm difference from 215 to 235mm) clearly makes a massive difference.

Enjoy your totally renewed ride!

Awesome thank you - really helps
