NSW Rip Off

Mark,

Nose Cone will still make a T3 roof top and bottom and I have had Macron Campers on the Central Coast fit my re-do job and they are excellent.

Hence, the way to go is get the roof made by Nose Cone then have it delivered to Macron Campers and have them do the fit. Bret from Nose Cone previously worked for Trakka and has many years experience in fitting roof conversions. He is currently re-fitting the pop top sleeve to finish the job.

He also recommended that When I get my engineers certificate I have the cupboards reinstalled and have it changed to a Motorhome/ Camper for cheaper rego.

Very good idea.

I will tell you all about it @ the Nationals.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott

Would be great if you can bring this brochure with you.

That's very interesting that Nose Cone now have that mould for the T3. Do you know if someone could take their tin-top T3 and have it installed there also?

Mark.

A few queries leading up to next Sunday ... The Nationals.

How many "recognised" T3 camper conversion manufacturers were there? Trakka, Camperize, Suncamper and ????
The opportunity presents on Sunday to scout around and find them, both in the undercover and outside carparks?
Perhaps a couple of camera guys during the day to take pertinent photos of T3 campervans/conversi on permit stickers?
A "delegation" to brainstorm with Chris Band on the day? He may know all about his opposition builders as well?
Are Trakka or any others represented there on the day?

Hi Doone

Any idea why there are 2 numbers or what they may relate to?

Can you send a external & interior picture of your Camperise conversion? In fact, perhaps a picture of the sticker as well.

I think mine was done by Camperise, however, as you know for sure, it would be good to compare the style of conversion (ie, roof type moudling, interior layout)

If you coming to Nationals then can take a look there.

Ken - it may be important to know _who_ did the conversion as well in the absence of the sticker, in order to then further identify which approval number is appropriate.

Thanks
Mark.

Ok thanks, so now, can those with any known brand T3 campervan conversion please check your own original documentation and/or sticker for reference to their own specific RTA issued T3 conversion builder permit/licence number & report here your findings?

By so doing it's possible we may in fact uncover a commonality of permit/licence number issued to each builder of T3 camper conversions. This information may well assist present and future owners of these campervans when dealing with the likes of the RTA.

My Suncamper top has the same pop up section as Harts Safari (with scissor lifts, not gas struts) but a different base section. Mine has a blunt end as he has said in an earlier post and I also have a small luggage well at the front with tie down points like Harts, but with a different drainage system for water that can get in there. I have seen photos of overseas campers with nice looking luggage bags tied down up there.

No doubt someone with a camera can go berserk taking photos of all these different conversions.

Peter

Gents,

I know I have this thing but I am still searching my piles of crap to find it. Hopefully I will find it before the weekend.

If you have no scanner per Les' suggestion, I can have it scanned at our office on Monday and returned Yellow Express Post back to you.

If you have any other intersesting T3 or Syncro period literature, bring that too.

I am hoping that I can print off some brochures, price lists and pictures etc and put them on a board for the day.

Yes Ralph. See earlier posts. That saved me $650 just before I was about to get an engineering certificate.

See attached detailed photo.

Mark,

Not Quite. The following should apply:

Nose Cone Contact is:

Marc Ph: 1800 643 322

Macron Campers: (For fitting the T3 pop top roof) is:

Brett Cameron
4 Mill Street, Ourimbah (occupying what appears to be an old aircraft hanger)
Ph: 4362 1415

Brett is an absolute lovely bloke who refuses to do a crap job - unlike that idiot Chris Whitton from Discoverer Campers (formerly Owned by Tysons) who would struggle to tie his own shoe laces.

I just found the brochure and I will scan it now. Forgive the quality it is about 12 years old.

Cheers,

How many "recognised" T3 camper conversion manufacturers were there? Trakka, Camperize, Suncamper and ????
The opportunity presents on Sunday to scout around and find them, both in the undercover and outside carparks?
Perhaps a couple of camera guys during the day to take pertinent photos of T3 campervans/conversi on permit stickers?

Thanks
Mark.

Doone  You are right there were 2 separate business Chris had Camperize & Richard owned Modular Camping Ind they worked from the same workshop together in Orchard Rd     In the clip the red Van was owned by Chris and had an Ottinger 2.5 VW engine sure was a big step up from the 2.1   Richard also made my roof for my 76 Kombi when at 106 Old Pittwater Rd   I don't think Chris was there at the time. You bought the furniture modules from them and installed them yourself  his roofs left the front cabin in place whereas i think Tracker took the whole roof out   Ed Sopru also made furniture for Kombis   My roo bar was also made by "Alumber" they also made me a roof rack for 2 Wave Skis that slid forward and let me pop the roof without taking the Skis off
I spent a few late nights at Orchard St when they were doing my Syncro how I made it back to Newcastle I don't know

See attached the Safari info in regard to my van where my van was traded and sold in 1996. An interesting artifact too.

Note it is a Discoverer pop top system but referred to as "Safari" Campers - Nomad edition.

Hope it comes through.

If not I will bring it with me to the Nationals and Mark might be able to sort it out - or I will send the scan directly to Mark.

Cheers,

If you have no scanner per Les' suggestion, I can have it scanned at our  office on Monday and returned Yellow Express Post back to you.

If you have any other intersesting T3 or Syncro period literature, bring  that too.

I am hoping that I can print off some brochures, price lists and pictures  etc and put them on a board for the day.

How many "recognised" T3 camper  conversion manufacturers were there? Trakka, Camperize, Suncamper and  ????
The opportunity presents on Sunday to scout around and find  them, both in the undercover and outside carparks?
Perhaps a  couple of camera guys during the day to take pertinent photos of T3  campervans/conversion permit stickers?
A "delegation" to  brainstorm with Chris Band on the day? He may know all about his  opposition builders as well?

Any idea why there  are 2 numbers or what they may relate to?

Can you send a  external & interior picture of your Camperise conversion? In fact,  perhaps a picture of the sticker as well.

I think mine was  done by Camperise, however, as you know for sure, it would be good to  compare the style of conversion (ie, roof type moudling, interior  layout)

If you coming to  Nationals then can take a look there.

Ken - it may be  important to know _who_ did the conversion as well in the absence of the  sticker, in order to then further identify which approval number is  appropriate.

By so  doing it's possible we may in fact uncover a commonality of  permit/licence number issued to each builder of T3 camper conversions.  This information may well assist present and future owners of these  campervans when dealing with the likes of the RTA.

Murray,

They are probably completely different unrelated companies which coincidentally have the same name.

Interesting a top of the line trakka was sold by "Safari Campervans".

Looks like there will be a fair amount of literature coming along.

I will also bring this article on the first ever syncro commercially produced in 1984.

Cheers,

Attached is the brochure I scanned and as I mentioned previously - it has seen better days.
Note it is a Discoverer pop top system but referred to as "Safari" Campers - Nomad edition.
Hope it comes through.
If not I will bring it with me to the Nationals and Mark might be able to sort it out - or I will send the scan directly to Mark.
Cheers,
Scott

If you have no scanner per Les' suggestion, I can have it scanned at our office on Monday and returned Yellow Express Post back to you.

If you have any other intersesting T3 or Syncro period literature, bring that too.

I am hoping that I can print off some brochures, price lists and pictures etc and put them on a board for the day.

Mark.

A scan posted to Files would also be great.

Hi Scott

Would be great if you can bring this brochure with you.

That's very interesting that Nose Cone now have that mould for the T3. Do you know if someone could take their tin-top T3 and have it installed there also?

Hart,

From what I am aware, Camperize were bought out and the name changed to Discoverer Campers with "Safari" conversion models. Later Discoverer dropped the Safari and just called them Discoverer conversions.

Hence, Camperize, Safari and Discoverer are all the same basic design and the fibreglass roof was design by a guy named Richard ........ who died only a few years ago.

The Camperize/ Discoverer/Safari T3 roof mould now lives on and is currently Owned by a mob called "Nose Cone" who are based in 12 Donald St, Old Guilford.

They now even have correct spec of how to "lay up" the roof in the mould to make sure it doesn't sag.

I even have a 10 year old brochure of the discoverer / safari conversion to a T3 with a very nice 87 model twin diff-lock vehicle as the show piece.

I will try and dig it up and bring it to the Nationals.

Cheers,

Scott

Mark,
A few queries leading up to next Sunday ...

Thanks
Mark.

Good luck! I tried to do that many years ago. The computer program would not allow it. Once the VIN is entered as a goods vehicle it could not be changed. I even spoke to the RTA about de-registering it and re-registering it as a passenger vehicle and they could only guarantee that it would cost me a lot of money and did not know what the outcome would be.
John,
