Rear Diff Lock cause damage?

Hi Bob

We just starting to think about the mechanics of the drive down.

Some of us have accomodation options in Melbourne with Friends etc for a Friday night stay in Melbourne, so current thinking has been to drive down Thursday afternoon - overnight somewhere near Tarcutta, complete journey into Melbourne on Friday - stay variously with friends Friday night and then meet up again on Saturday afternoon at Tooradin.

Would this work for you?

Mark.

Hi Les

Can you please include David and Kahrina for staying on Sat night.

They are v good friends of Hart and I met them at Old Bar. They have
just bought their first Kombi (a camper) and will travel down from
Port Macquarie with Hart and then us from Camden.

Bob,

Regarding the DOTVW itself, it is held at the Cranbourne Racecourse and is organized by the VW Club of Victoria .  The gates open at 0900.   You will find every type of VW ever manufactured, plus a lot of specially constructed vehicles based on the VW.

We have an allocated display area for the Syncros.  Every Syncro owner attending gets a placard carrying the owners name to display on the vehicle and every attendee gets a lapel card ditto.

You don’t have to stay with your Syncro all day.  You can spend whatever time you want looking at the mass of displays.  There are also parts on sale in the market section.

A group of us stay at the Tooradin caravan park, about 20 km away on Saturday night.

Les

Dear Les,
Just back from Europe which seemed to be experiencing a drought of T3 Syncros on the roads that I was on. (Perhaps they were all at home having heard about my driving.) Did see a rather tired 2WD Joker.
May I confirm that I will be coming to the DOTVW on the 16 Nov preceded by the Saturday night camping at Tooradin.
Can I assist with anything? Kept a few of the photos you laminated last year.
Do we book individually with VWA and Tooradin or what?
Bit jet lagged as had 2 of my grandchildren with me on the flight home but travelled on the new A380 airbus which is quite impressive even in economy.
Cheers

Hi Roger

Nice to hear you are home and am confident all Syncros would have remained in their garages whilst you were tearing through Europe trying to kick start their economy.

Yes, the A380 is pretty impressive aircraft - I am waiting for them to have a special kids section down the back :-)

See you in Melbourne soon!

Mark.

Roger Roger,

We have only eight Syncros so far, which is much less that I hoped or expected so I will be direct emailing several members in the next couple of days to see if we can generate a more respectable attendance.  (Mark Boys?  Everard Hoffman? Others?)  Two of the eight are from NSW with a possible third, new member Bob Dale.

Syncros

  • Bob Dale – not confirmed yet
  • Francesca Coles
  • Gary Cookson
  • Hartmut Kiehn
  • Les Harris
  • Mark & Deb Kofahl
  • Michael Roberts
  • Roger Bell
  • Theo Weiss

I will also contact the Tooradin caravan park and make direct bookings for those who have elected to stay on the Saturday night.

Tooradin

  • Bob Dale – NSW – not confirmed yet
  • Brian Reed
  • David & Kahrina – NSW  - non-Syncro T3
  • Hartmut Kiehn – NSW
  • Les Harris
  • Mark & Deb Kofahl – NSW
  • Roger Bell

(By the way, you had better aim for 15 November or you will miss out by 24 hours!)

I should have mentioned that I will arrange the display side of it.  (Brian will be more than busy with other aspects of the DOTVW.)

Do you need anything from me to bring down for the display?

Phill

Hi Roger,

It will be good to see you there. Pre-book for the event here; http://www.vwclub.com.au/dotvw_reg.php .

Les,

I guess we’ll discuss whether to do a group booking for the caravan park, or go individual, this weekend.

PS. Roger, and any-one else interested, Les and I will be at this event on Saturday; http://forums.kombiclub.com/showthread.php?t=24394 . All welcome.

Phill,

We have the brick wall of a building behind our allocated display area that we used last year to post A3 size (laminated) pics.  We will use the wall again this year so if you have anything that can go up, please bring it along.  Are you bringing your Syncro or coming with someone else?

Due to the fact that there is some cove called Wiger Toods or Tiger Woods or something playing golf on the same weekend as the DOTVW, just about everything is booked out.  The Tooradin caravan park had three sites available but that won’t cover our requirements.

After trying anything within a sensible distance of Cranbourne, I got lucky with the Discovery park at Carrum Downs and have booked six sites.  There is a motel on the same site in case it is needed – Bob Dale?

For location, it comes up on Google using:

:

1165 Frankston-Dandenong Road

Carrum Downs, Vic

The list stands at:

  • Brian Reed
  • David & Kahrina
  • Hartmut Kiehn
  • Les Harris
  • Mark & Deb Kofahl
  • Roger Bell

Yet to confirm:

  • Robert Dale

Les

Thanks Les for doing this and good find.

Did you need to pay anything yet? Happy to reimburse now if that is the cacse.

Regards
Mark.

We have had overseas members since the first days of the group but we have just got one from Papua New Guinea , Steve Sims.
